She recorded the highest score of all the competitors during the tryouts in Minneapolis, Minn, recently. Hummel has been the USPC National Tetrathlon Champion for the past two years. In less than three months, 10 young men and women from across the country' will be traveling to the United Kingdom to represent the U.S. in the equestrian sport. They w ill be competing against international interna-tional Pony Club teams from Canada. England. France, Ireland, Scotland and Switzerland. These 17-20-year-olds wiU be competing in Ireland. Scotland and Wales in three separate two-day Tetrathlon events. They have been training for y ears to reach the pinnacle of skill and speed in this demanding multi-discipline multi-discipline sport. Tetrathlon takes its roots from the Olympic modern pentathlon -a serie of five separate events including equestrian (jumping over fences), swimming, cross-country running, shooting and fencing. The U.S. Pony Club has organized Tetrathlon ming the first four of these disciplines. She will be developing her fencing skills while she continues her education at the University of Utah, where she has been awarded a full tuition leadership scholarship scholar-ship for the 2000-2001 academic year. Hummel has been an active member of the Timpanogos and Wasatch Pony Clubs during the past eight years - compenng and placing in combined training and Tetrathlon events across the Intermountain West. Park City's 1 1-12-year-old competitive com-petitive baseball team won a decisive deci-sive 14-0 gave with the Layton Bulldogs recently in five innings. Playing in Farmington, the Miners started the game with plenty plen-ty of hot bats, great defense and stellar pitching. Behind the offensive offen-sive power of Michael Tew. Skylor Burton. Will Pollock and Jared Tew, the Miners struck first - scoring scor-ing two runs in the first inning. The team kept the Bulldogs scoreless score-less when David Crook blocked the plate and tagged a runner who attempted to score. Miner pitching was instrumental instrumen-tal in the win. Ricky Malott threw three outstanding innings before Skylor Burton came in to finish off the shutout. Together, they held the team to only two hits,, administering no walks on the afternoon. Michael Tew hit a stand-up triple and recorded four RBI's in the game. He was aided on the defensive side by Burton, who stopped a rally when he backhanded back-handed a shot down the line and ' threw out the Lyton runner on first. The Miners finished the game by blanking the Bulldogs one, two, three in the final four innings, while going error-free. Alex Berry. Mackenzie Donoghue, and Paul Hanley all came through with key contributions contribu-tions during the win. During the team's second game, however, the offense abandoned aban-doned Park City who was overpowered over-powered by Farmington. This week the Miners head to Ppcatello, Idaho to participate in a statewide tournament.
