Show B-52's join Ziggy Marley by RON GEORG Record staff writer When founding member Ricky Wilson died in 1986, people wrote off the B-52'8 as a musical anomo-ly anomo-ly that had run its course so when the band released 1989's powerhouse Cosmic Thing, everyone from fans to reviewers was astonished and appreciative. Despite the loss of Wilson, the album found an energy the band had lost two albums before. Their punk-kitsch dance music had lost its edge; the group was a shadow of the band which produced tunes like Rock Lobster and Private Idaho. However, after some soul-searching soul-searching and goal-setting following follow-ing Wilson's death, the band has returned with a new verve. While they had been mesmerized by their own hokey beat, the B52's Artist holds big The children in Muscular Dystrophy posters are intended to evoke your sympathy because their cause needs money so it's ironic that 1978 poster child Brad Chides ter has turned into one of the MDA's big supporters. Chidester has helped the MDA through his art, and he will be in Park City August 11, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., to exhibit his art. A watercolor specialist, Chidester's work is no novelty; the young man is a truly gifted artist. In fact, Chidester has received recognition at a number of fairs and exhibits for his abilities. They've also been keeping a fairly rigorous touring schedule; the band was just in Salt Lake a few months back, and they'll be returning to play ParkWest August II. Attentive news watchers wat-chers will have also seen them popping up places like the Earth Day celebration in Central Park. Their new work has also gained a good deal of airplay. Radio stations sta-tions have embraced a number of tunes from the work, including June Bug, Channel Z, and the immensely im-mensely popular Love Shack. That's given the band some of their broadest appeal ever. And the ParkWest show will see an extra bunch of fans as the B-52s have hooked up with reggae star Ziggy Marley for the tour. exhibit artist says his disability has served serv-ed his gift well. "Through my art I can express my feelings. I feel a certain power when I am working on a piece of art that I am not able to experience because of my physical limitations. I can reproduce nature as I see it and can make any changes that I feel are necessary. Consequently, I have chosen art as my way of life." The exhibit will be held at 1276 Lucky John Drive in Park Meadows. For more information, call 649-2106 or 571-3066. v V f it N FOR SALE $19,800 Runway expanding to 7,000 ft. Investment Potential! Marley has been to Utah a number of times, the first when he was 16 years old. His mother Rita was doing a set with her band, the I-threes, and they started into a version of late husband hus-band Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier. When the vocals began it seemed Bob Marley had been resurrected on the pavilion at Snowbird; Ziggy has certainly inherited in-herited his father's gift. Since, Ziggy has released two albums with the Melody Makers, ' a band which includes three other young Marleys. The works have been impressive, polished collections collec-tions of reggae designed to show the young man's concern. The ParkWest concert will be August 11 at 7:30 p.m.; tickets are available locally at Get In Here Records, and they can also be purchased at all Smith Tix Outlets.
