Spriggs, Lefler in recorder race The race for County Recorder Re-corder matches Democrat Alan Spriggs against Independent In-dependent Elizabeth. Lefler, running for the post being vacated by incumbent Wanda Spriggs. This is condensed from information provided by Park City-Summit County League of Women Voters. Alan Spriggs, the son of the present recorder, is a Summit Sum-mit County native who now lives in Coalville. A registered regis-tered Utah abstractor and licensed title insurance agent, Spriggs has been associated with the Summit County Recorder's office for the past 10 years. In addition, addi-tion, he has managed a title company in Summit County for several years. "I have also worked in many of the recorders' offices throughout the state," Spriggs says. "I have personally filed for record over 5,000 documents, as well as condominium and subdivision plats, and followed fol-lowed these documents through the recording process. pro-cess. "Through this work I have gained an understanding of the recorder's duties as required by law, and the needs of the public and business community." Spriggs says that his formal training includes 200 hours of instiuction in five Utah land title courses. He is also a graduate of Weber State College, where he studied business and trained in drafting and platting. According to the League of Women Voters, there is reported to be a six-week backlog in the recording schedule at the courthouse. "Much of the abstracting and indexing must be done manually and the original documents are not returned until they are completely processed. Currently the recorder's office has over 200,000 documents on file, and is adding 1,000 to 1,200 documents per month." Sprigg's opponent, Elizabeth Eliza-beth Lefler, is a resident of Woodland. In her response to the League of Women Voters, she cites "considerable "consider-able experience" in office management and meeting the public. "I have had 12 years of banking experience. Some of this time has been spent in the mortgage department dealing specifically with these kinds of documents. I am acquainted with different filing systems used in banking bank-ing and government." When asked about hei formal training for th recorder's job, she responds "There is no specific formal training required... "I plan to visit other offices, thereby gaining from, their experience. Associated Counties of Utah holds a workshop in December that I will attend." Lefler claims that there is no backlog in the recording of documents. "Documents are recorded on the day of arrival. The lapse in time is because of time necessary to microfilm, develop, verify, etc., and return to customer." cus-tomer." First on Lefler's list of priorities is "to learn the now established system being used," while at the same time "remaining open for new ideas and better ways to fulfill my position."
