Show Thursday, September 20, 1979 Page 12 5 New Park City Sales Tool The Park City Convention and Visitors Bureau held an in-town premier of its new slide' presentation in the resort's Garden Room Monday Mon-day evening. The seven-and-a-half minute min-ute slide show is a sales tool produced to expose Park City and its amenities to the conference and marketing planner. The convention bureau, less than a year old, was organized to stimulate convention business to increase in-crease the economic base of the city. ( i Bureau director Jack City, and close-ups of the Alpine Slide, restaurants, shops, and meeting centers, including the Holiday Inn, Moana's Racquet Club facilities facili-ties and the Prospector Square Conference Center. Also shown are sports activities activi-ties around town, a humorous humor-ous golfing sequence featuring featur-ing the duffer in us all, and places to go near Park City, like the Heber Creeper.' Douglas said the show had its premier a week ago in New Orleans at the Discover America Tourist Organiza- Douelas said Tuesdav that'1 on Pow Wow a seminar the slide presentation "has that attracted tourism plan been desperately needed, and when you see it, we're sure you will be as impressed im-pressed as we are." The show was produced through funds from Schick-Sunn Schick-Sunn Classic Pictures, who also donated the equipment, and monies generated through transient room taxes and bureau membership member-ship fees. The show was produced by Axelson Advertising Adver-tising and Research of Salt Lake City for about $2,500. The presentation, which showcases the talents of some local photographers, includes aerial shots of Park ners from all over the world. "We made contacts with planners from Australia, Japan, England new markets mar-kets for us and through the show we acquainted them with summer in Park City and our convention capabilities." capabili-ties." Douglas said the bureau has made great strides in attracting at-tracting convention business to Park City. On October 1, a board meeting will reveal the marketing strategy for 1980, which will include extensive advertising in nationally known magazines. Liquor Store Changes Hours Responding to requests from patrons of Rosie's Package Agency, the Utah Liquor Commission this week changed the operating hours of the Main Street , Liquor store to 1 p.m. 9 p.m. Previously, Rosie's opened at 11 a.m. and closed its doors at 7 p.m.; a closing time many patrons felt to be too early to serve the needs of Main Street businesses. Dennis Kellen, of the Utah Liquor Commission administration adminis-tration staff, says the commission com-mission voted to change the hours in response to requests made by locals to Rosie Manager Tony Beam. Beam savs that while some patrons seem happy about the new hours, others complain com-plain that a 9 p.m. closing is still too early and others are displeased that they have to wait until the afternoon to buy liquor. Keller says the store hours cannot be extended beyond eight hours a day. He added that those state stores with 12-hour operating schedules have to be budgeted for extra manhours and only the largest stores are allowed this. As an example he cited one Salt Lake City state store with a 12-hour schedule that does $700,000 a month business. busi-ness. Rosie's, by comparison, compari-son, only does $60,000 a month. cues "And cnere's a move afoot for the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and the bureau to move closer together," Douglas said. "We will remain separate entities, but we'll work more closely with each other. We'll work on getting the people to Park . City, and then the Chamber works with them once they're here. "Much of the bureau's activity will take two to three years to feel," Douglas continued. "But we've al-, al-, ready made several hundred contacts in the convention area. This summer we addressed the energy crisis in the Wasatch Front papers and it worked very well. August and September showed a considerable number num-ber of conferences and meetings in (own.
