They won in 1974, beating Park City in the final. In those days the Salt Lake City team relied on brute strength but the influence in-fluence of coach Carter has been evident this season. The Goat has added finesse to their repertoire and the result is a well-balanced team that was clearly the class of the tournament. "I think we showed more inventiveness and initiative than the other teams," Carter said Tuesday. "We're not predictable and we involve everybody in the game." The Goat coach praised the Challenge Cup as a "great tournament" featuring good organization and excellent rugby. "I think our winning is indicative of the strength of Utah rugby," Carter observed. ob-served. "Utah teams are closing the gap between them and the top teams on the coast.
