Show Thursday, September 20, 1979 5 Page 11 Wireless Gets Needed Boost Asked when the station will be on the air, Feulner stated "That's up to the Federal Communications Commission Commis-sion in Washington DC, which has been reviewing our 157 page application since May 7." "I will say this, my conversations conver-sations with the commission people indicate they have found absolutely nothing wrong with our application... it's just taking time to process it." "They have indicated to us that we can expect a construction permit in October Octo-ber or November, which would mean we will be on the air in December, at the latest," he predicted. Feulner continued: "That may sound like a long time to some people, but you have to remember that we're dealing deal-ing with one of the most highly regulated areas of the federal government and some commercial applications applica-tions can take years to make it through the bureaucracy... by those standards, Wireless is doing pretty damn well." Efforts to build a community com-munity radio station in Park City were given a major boost last week when the 140 participants in the Cutrubus-Newman Cutrubus-Newman Brothers golf tournament donated over $3,300 towards the construction construc-tion of the non-profit, noncommercial non-commercial station that is targeted to go on this fall. "Each year we choose a different charity...we thought the radio station was something some-thing the community needs," stated John Newman, owner of the Car 19, who along with Gus and Homer Cutrubus, Cutrubus Motors in Layton, organized the fifth-annual tournament at 'the Park City golf course: Accepting the donation for Community Wireless at the conclusion of the three-day event was Tom Bock, vice-president vice-president of the Board of Trustees, who told the golfers the money would be used to purchase broadcast equipment for the station, which will be primarily staffed by volunteers from Park City. "You guys are great.. the entire community thanks you," said Bock, who made special mention of the contributions con-tributions made by Bill Orhding (Las Vegas) and Park City resident Don Johnson. Bock went on to state: "Park City has needed a U UiUIHHni.iy . Blair Feulner, president of Wireless, said Tuesday that the tourney donation would cover over one-third of the total money needed to get the FM stereo station on the air. "To run a first-class operation opera-tion we'll need to raise an additional $7,000 by the end of October," he said, noting work has already begun on the remodeling of the station's future studio in the Memor ial Building, which has been donated by the city. He added: "That may sound like a lot of money, until you consider it would cost in excess of $60,000 to put together a commercial station." The reason the community station will be able to go on the air for less, he explained, was because of the work donated by residents, broadcast broad-cast equipment donated by other radio stations and the support given the project by the citv council. be launching a "Station Creation" campaign, aimed at raising the additional $7,000 for equipment by the end of October. "We need the money now so we can order the equipment. If we don't, since there's a 30-day delivery on some of this stuff, it won't be here when we need it," he said. The kick-off of the station creation campaign will be October 5, with a 1950's "Rock & Roll Revival" disco at the Rusty Nail. Stay tuned to The Newspaper News-paper for further details.
