Show Wednesday, July 20, 1977 THE Page 9 New Management Coming Soon To Alpine Prospector Jim Carr, owner of the Alpine Prospector Hotel, said Monday that the hotel's restaurant and bar will soon be opening under new management. Greg Ashe and Bud Nations, proprietors of the Sirloin Saloon and Sirloin Saloon Club, were evicted by Carr last week for failure to pay back debts. Carr said rumors that the eviction occurred because he "wanted a bigger piece of the action" were totally false. Back rent due in the amount of $4,000 and failure to pay a $4,500 bank note for which he had co-signed were the reasons for the action, Carr said. "I could have worked out something with Greg as I have in the past," Carr remarked, "if it weren't for the $4,500 note." Carr said he co-signed the note "as a favor to Greg." "The note was due in March and they (Ashe and Nations) did nothing to settle it," he added. "I told Greg from March through April, 'take care of the note or you're out'." According to Carr, Nations had an attorney send the Silver King Bank a letter denying he and Ashe had taken the loan. Carr said this was a "delaying tactic" designed to force the bank to come to him for the money, which it did, and he had to pay off the note. At this point, "The dye was cast," Carr said. "At the end of May I told Greg to pay up or leave." Carr refutes the contention that he gave the two the boot because business picked up in June, saying he would have had a better chance of getting the money owed him had he allowed them to stay in business. "I like Greg and I don't know if he's part and parcel to these stories," Carr added. Carr said he has been approached by three Park City groups wanting to lease the bar and restaurant from him. He added that he is offering "the exact same "I sat down and told him I would pay him," Ashe continued, "but I also told him I wanted a lease for the restaurant and bar." "He said that under no circumstances would he do that." Ashe said he wanted the lease to protect the friends which loaned him the money to repay Carr. He said he has never been given a lease on the restaurant and that he had only a one-year lease on the downstairs bar. "I think one of the main reasons I couldn't work out a deal was my newly acquired partner Bud Nations," Ashe commented. "Bud was a little too aggressive with Mr. Carr." KACTo Have Photo Workshops During Fest. Greg Ashe and Bub Nations Jim Carr terms Bud and Greg had." "There's no bigger piece of the action for me," he noted. Concerning the money allegations, Ashe said, "I have always owed him (Carr) money. As far as I can tell he was just tired of me owing it to him." "He gave me an ultimatum to pay all the money or quit," Ashe said. "I went in search of the money I owed him. I went to good friends who were cooperative and I lined up every nickel." Ashe, who has operated the Sirloin Saloon each winter since 1972 and for the past three summers, said, "I tried to raise the money but it takes time and we tried to do it as best we could." "I don't hold any animosity in this," he continued, "I think things will work out for the best for both Jim and myself," Ashe said he is "almost certain" he has a new location for the restaurant and expressed thanks to the residents who have patronized the Sirloin Saloon through the years. The Kimball Art Center today announced the schedule of photography workshops to be held in conjunction with its August Photography Festival 77. Ten national and regional photographers will conduct the varied workshops that include such topics as photo journalism with John Dominis, Photography-Editor Photography-Editor of People Magazine; a nature photography walk with Joe Jackson, former park ranger; and Harold Jones, Director of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, who will discuss the works of the national photographers on display throughout August in the art center's main gallery. "As this is our first photographic event, we tried to carefully schedule workshops that would capture the interest of amateurs as well as professionals," commented Nick Nass, Director of Photography at the Kimball Art Center and Coordinator of the Photography Festival '77. "We have had an extremely favorable response statewide to the open exhibit for amateurs and professional photographers and we expect an equally favorable response to the photography workshops," he added.
