Advertise in the Newspapers Building Services Directory The Park City Muckers defeated the University of Utah side Saturday to retain their perfect home record. by Alamo The Park City Muckers thwarted a much-improved University of Utah side Saturday, 10-3. The Muckers retained their perfect home record despite scorching midsummer temperatures which withered the game's pace to a crawl. Skip Schirf had another excellent match for Park City, setting up the first try of the game with an inside break and a cut through the gap to the chagrin of the University defense. Schirf was able to find his Centre Kevin McKay when the Utah Fullback moved over to cover and McKay waltzed to the in-goal unopposed. Bill Hart missed his attempt to convert the goal, but the four-points stood up through the remainder of an otherwise sluggish first half. Utah had only one scoring chance in the first period which was stifled by Fullback-in-a-pinch Tom Lauder's crushing tackle at mid-field. The second half proved somewhat more active, though the game was affected noticeably by the day's heat. Each club had its share of breaks through the opposition defense, but were unable to capitalize due to the lagging support. Evil Jeff Wallace was able to give timely support, however, as he linked up with Rick Phaler for his fifth try in five consecutive games. Scrum Half Phaler had taken a run around his pack at mid-field when he found himself hemmed in by Utah. Displaying his ever-increasing ever-increasing bag of skills, the Park City Halfback sailed a high kick ahead which caught the Utah Fullback alone near his own twenty-five. twenty-five. Phaler beat the Utah defender to the ball, leaping for possession of his own kick on the full, and in one movement transferred the ball to the charging Wallace who dotted down easily beneath the posts. Hart converted the goal and Park City then led, 10-3. Utah struck back with a penalty goal shortly thereafter, but were unable to mount any semblance of a true comeback before referee Gary Amendola whistled for no-side. This coming Saturday's match will pit a solid Idaho Falls club against the Muckers at the City Park. The game is scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. The Muckers will be severely tested in this Match, now feeling the loss of the entire heart of their backline which so thoroughly throttled the Dead Goat three weeks ago. Skip Schirf is the latest Mucker to have to leave the lineup for a couple of weeks, suffering from a severe bruise to his knee which he received falling to the brick-hard brick-hard surface of the pitch in Saturday's match. Scott Thompson and Don Sturges have already been lost to the Muckers for the last three games. Totally untried John Rusconi will attempt to run the Muckers from Scrum Half, while Rick Phaler will move out to Schirf's spot at Fly Half. In the Centres the Muckers will have the rapidly improving McKay and the durable but erratic John Sundquist. Sundquist played his first game at Centre last Saturday, showing his usual attacking flair along with his more than often sub par ball handling. This tandem should be able to strike with regularity, however, if they can get the ball with any consistency from the Forwards on Saturday. Look for ; Don (J lover's unretirement at Fullback and Allen Terry's try drouth to be quenched in this match The other winger will have to be pulled from the pack, likely candidates being Dave Photo: Marc nedman Sundquist, Al Stillette. or Rocky Collins. ... ;) Fred Grambau will lead a realigned pack on Saturday as the Muckers strive for a scrum which will go forward instead of back, and a lineout to control the ball in front of Rusconi. Under the sunny skies of New York City's first real summer day. the U.S. Ski Team and CBS Television Sports announced their three year association in which CBS becomes the exclusive broadcast agent for the Team in all F1S sanctioned events through April of 1980. According to a CBS spokesman, at least three World Cup or international skiing competitions a year will be aired on the network's "CBS Sports Spectacular." F. Warren Hellman. President of the U.S. Ski Educational Foundation, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement. " We have been most impressed with CBS in not only their imaginative and constructive approach to negotiations but also with the fact that they are interested in the advancement of our national ski team, not just in the so-called so-called glamour events. We know that the exposure for the kids will help our organization with its fundraising and we look forward to our association with CBS." Barry Frank. Vice President of CBS Sports, declared, "We are privileged to present this young, fresh and fast-developing fast-developing team, especially since CBS Sports Spectacular has increased its, viewing audien.ee. by 25 . percent, yerh.396 ?He continued, "We recognize that international ski competition com-petition is not just 2 weeks every 4 years.
