Show Review -Wednesday, February 18, 1998 - Page 5 Pleasant Living Mildred Ferre1 Wilcox to be honored at 85th birthday celebration on Sunday An open house in honor of Mildred Swenson Ferre' Wilcox on her 85th birthday will be held at the Grant Ferre' home, 165 S. 1325 East, Lindon, on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. They request no gifts, please. Mildred was born Feb. 18, 1913 in Pleasant Grove to Ezra James and Elsie Walker Swenson. She Taduated from BYU in Home Economics and taught school in Orem and American Fork before teaching many years at the Utah State Developmental Center. She married Max Ferre' on Aug. 5, Vl and he died in Feb. 1976. Sue later married Hugh Wilcox and he died in Dec, 1991., She served a mission for the LDS Church in Oakland, CA. Mildred is the mother of six children and has 34 grandchildren grandchil-dren and 32 great-grandchildren. Her children are Max and Nadine Ferre', Layton; Mike and Karen Ferre', Pleasant Grove; Dave and RaKell Ferre', American Fork; Dr. Steve and Jolane Chadwick, West Jordan; Sondra and Ron Taylor, St. George; and Grant and Dana Ferre , Lindon. Open house to honor Charles, Arthella Dearing on their golden wedding day - f Mildred F. Wilcox Magnus A. Hansen to celebrate 90th birthday at open house Sun. Magnus A. Hansen will celebrate his 90th birthday on Sunday, Feb. 22. He will be honored at an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lindon 6th Ward, 25 N. Main Street. Magnus was born Feb. 22, 1908 in Emery, to Andrew C. andNoraJ.Hansen. He married Ellen Millett on Aug. 14, 1937. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 1, 1941. Ellen passed away May 8, 1995. Magnus worked for Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company for 26 years. Magnus is the father of five children: Franklin M. Hansen, Pleasant Grove; Lee A. (Sonja) Hansen, American Fork; Craig M. (Earlene) Hansen, Lindon; Nora Ann (Charles) Wiener, Logan; Dale Hansen, San Diego, Calif. Your presence is the only gift requested. Charles J. Dearing and Arthella Newell were married on Feb. 18, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their children will hold an open house in their honor on Feb.21from2to4:30p.m.at the Orem Geneva Heights Stake Center, 456 N. 500 West. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of gifts, Charles and Arthella have requested a remembrance of them in writing. Prior to their marriage, Charles served in World War II in the Pacific as a 2nd Class Electricians Mate. He worked as director of the Foster Grandparent program in Utah County for 23 years, the majority of his working career. Their residence has been in Orem for most of their married life except for a short time between 1966 and 1968 when the family moved to Vernal where Charles sold insurance for Metropolitan. The couple has six children: N. Craig Dearing, West Jordan; Charlene and Gary Mower, Orem; Kevin J. and Jan Dearing, Highland; Cheryl Dearing, Tooele; Kyle L. and Chris Dearing, South Jordan; Ken A. and Tammie Dearing, Vernal. They have 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arthella stayed home to raise her family until her children were older. She then worked .1 Signetics for several years and drove a school bus for Mountainland Headstart. She has always had a love of music and has served as chorister in several different organizations since she was 16 years old. She was also a member of the musical ladies chorus, Chauntenetts. Charles and Arthella have served in all auxiliaries of the LDS Church. Charles also served in bishoprics in Orem and Vernal and was on the Orem West High Council and stake presidency. They recently returned from the Tennessee Knoxville Mission, where they served in the Chattanooga Family History Center from July 1996 through July 1997. The highlight of their mission was serving and meeting the wonderful people in the area. They are currently serving as full time service missionaries at the Senior Missionary Training Center. They have been active in civic and community work most of 5) Charles and Arthella Dearing their lives. They love to garden both flowers and vegetables. Arthella enjoys arranging and giving beautiful flower arrangements. They love to be with their family and grandchildren, the most important things in life. During retirement years, they have enjoyed traveling to nine European countries, Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, as well as the United States. Magnus Hansen Barbara Johnson to present cp'- Kevin Flvd senior recital at BYU Saturday Barbara Johnson will present her Senior Recital on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2:30 p.m. in 151 Tanner Building at BYU. She vfVl be performing works by Mozart, Franz Strauss, Rossini, Bernard Krol and Richard Strauss. Barbara, 21, a senior at BYU, is majoring in French horn performance. She was first Horn in All-State Orchestra and received superior ratings at state competitions. She studied one year at Idyllwilde School of Music in California. At NAU Summer Program, she has been honors soloist three times, receiving their top orchestra scholarship. She has played in the Utah Valley Youth Recital Series. This past summer she received the opportunity to tour with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the Sesquicentennial Barbara Johnson Brass Band. She is a resident of Pleasant Grove and has been performing with the Pleasant Grove Orchestra for 14 years, including numerous solo appearances. Support the Vikings Marine Cpl. Kevin D. Floyd, whose wife, Heather, is the daughter of Lewis B. and Mary L. Cowley of Pleasant Grove, recently participated in Exercise Invitex while on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), embarked aboard the ships of the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group. Floyd's unit helped naval units from France, Italy, Turkey and the United States by conducting training on surface and undersea warfare, fire support, maritime interdiction, ordnance and mine disposal drills. Sailors and Marines from the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group and the 24th MEU also conducted mock noncombatant evacuation operations and amphibious raids. The 1994 graduate of Mountain Crest High School in Hyrum, joined the Marine Corps in December 1994. Now open in new Orem location...
