Show Citizen, IrM, Review Wed Aug. 15, 1990 Page 10 American Heritage School and teacher receive awards Y American Heritage School in Pleasant Grove haa been awarded the George Washington Honor Medal presented by the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Penn. In addition, Geneve Cornell, a teacher and director at American Heritage School, haa been selected to receive the Valley Forge Teachers Teach-ers Medal and she haa also been nominated to be included in the book "Who's Who Among America's Amer-ica's Teachers." The school was nominated for the award by Douglas E. Nicholes. The Freedoms Foundation noted that they receive thousands of nominations and only a few are selected to win the medal. The Education Awards Program is specifically designed to recognize recog-nize the constructive educational work of public, parochial or private school systems, individual teachers teach-ers and administrators in building morally sound, intellectually capable, ca-pable, economically literate and patriotic young Americans. Every year in February, American Ameri-can Heritage School preent a patriotic program, "The Spirit of America Speaks," which was honored hon-ored by the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge several years ago. Mrs. Cornell wrote the script for this program as well as scripts titled "Columbus," "Miracle at Philadelphia," Philadel-phia," "The Bill of Rights in Our Livea," and numerous other programs. pro-grams. She has traveled to Spain, retracing re-tracing Columbus' steps, visiting the great monument in his honor, his tomb, and other points of interest inter-est concerning his life. She also visited Italy, giving emphasis to research and information informa-tion concerning Columbus, which was part of a European tour of countries from Greece to England. Mrs. Cornell attended the Revolutionary Revo-lutionary War Tour sponsored by the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge. She haa also visited the Holy Land. A history teacher, Mrs. Cornell was named as "Outstanding His- Stroke and head trauma support groups formed Newly formed stroke and head trauma support groups are meeting meet-ing regularly now at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Volunteers who have had strokes or who have sufferd some type of head trauma, are helping with these meetings. Anyone who would fit into either ei-ther of these groups and who would like to become a part of the support group is asked to contact Norm at UVRMC 373-7850 ext. 2756.
