Show Thursday, February 21, 2008 Been There, Done Liz Elder I come from a long line of people who plan where they want things to go after af-ter they die. My mom had several lists of where she wanted things to go: the silver tea set to my sister, the basement couch to me. I was considered the messy housekeeper with too many kids, which, actually, ac-tually, is true. I was thinking last week about what I was going to pass on, when I pass on, so to speak. When I start to think about it, there are just too many important things! The old clock in the kitchen that needs to be wound every week and cleaned all the time and runs too fast. Absolutely. People are going to fight over that. I probably need to give each kid hisher own first grade Santa, although al-though the complete collection col-lection is a stunning piece of memorabilia. Once, when one of my kids suggested, in a nice, non-eager-beaver way, that he wanted Item X when my lights went out, I did go through the house for a couple of days and write things down. Not much that would do well in a garage sale, a few things that would go nicely in a newlywed's apartment. Probably a few bucks from an antique dealer. And, of course, there are hand-me-downs from past generations. Take for example, my bed. I've had this bed since I was ten years old. It was in the old house my parents bought when we moved to Denver from Mississippi in 1952. When I got my own room several sev-eral years later, it became my bed. It's really beautiful beauti-ful with a carved headboard head-board and burled wood on the baseboard. I've slept in this bed through high school, five kids and two marriages (one from just after high school; don't marry young unless you're absolutely positive.) posi-tive.) I don't know how old it is; the house was built in 1910. The bed's claim to fame is an early Governor Gover-nor of Colorado, Governor Gover-nor Evans, slept on it one night, and I used to cross Evans Avenue when I drove to school. The wood is dark brown and the duck and her pals are a beige color. On either side there's black wood with some beige flowers in relief. It's really very pretty and considering - that I used to have a neon reading light nailed on it and considering the number num-ber of times I've moved it in the rain, it's in good shape. When I was in high school, I used to fake being be-ing sick so I could stay home and read in bed. I once finished all thousand thou-sand pages of "Gone With the Wind" in less than 24 hours. A personal record that required staying up all night. When my last son was born, I stayed up all night again tracing the outline of the flowers, wondering wonder-ing how I could get out of labor without having a C-section. C-section. All the times I've had a cold or the flu, I've parked in the middle and looked up at the duck and bonded. In a way, I'm AM that duck. It's old enough to really be a little too narrow. Whenever Clay and I go to a motel with a king-sized bed we always feel like we're in separate rooms because we're not slightly on top of each other. Who should I leave it to? For a couple of years, my son Kenneth slept in it while I tried the wonders of a water bed. Should he get it? Should my only daughter Maura have it because, well, she's the n 1 r PUBLIC NOTICE Notice is hereby given of a Public Hearing to be held during the regular meeting of the Ma-pleton Ma-pleton City Council, Coun-cil, Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. in the Mapleton City Building, 125 West Community Com-munity Center Way, Mapleton, Legal Notice The Board of Education of the Nebo School District Dis-trict is accepting bids from qualified vendors for musical musi-cal instruments for Salem Hills High, located at 150 North Skyhawk Bid., Salem, Utah. Maybe one of the younger kids because they are only getting the leftovers from their older, more powerful power-ful sibs anyway. I want my kids and their kids to know the story of my bed and trace the same flowers I have all these years. My grandmother left me the buffet cabinet she had as a young wife, and my mother used to tell the story of birthday cakes when she was little. You could take your cake and keep it in one of the cabinets and hand it out however you wanted to. You could keep the key for that day. I've told my kids about finding find-ing the LePages glue and string and crayons in the the corner drawer when I was at Grandma's house in New Orleans for the summer. Knowing the cake story sto-ry helped me understand my mother and gave me a glimpse of what it was like to be a child during the Depression. Hopefully Hopeful-ly knowing the history of my bed as a place to read will help my kids. I hope I don't have to look down and see my bed at a garage sale. There will be consequences! Although, by then, I'll probably proba-bly have other things on my mind, like dodging the flames. Faith is the subtle chain which binds us to the infinite. in-finite. - Elizabeth O. An easement is a right to use another person's property for a specific spe-cific purpose. In general, easements are usually created cre-ated by written agreement and are, more or less, permanent. When the property is sold, the easement ease-ment is passed along to the buyer. It may be that a neighbor has an easement that allows him or her access for a specific purpose. Conversely, the property prop-erty may come with an easement that benefits the buyer. In either case, a buyer should be fully aware of any easements since they may affect the future use of the property. If necessary, discuss the issue with a lawyer.
