Perhaps former First Lady Rosalynn Carter said it best when she observed: "There are four kinds of people in the world - those who have been caregivers, those who currently are caregivers, those who will become caregivers, and those who will need caregivers." care-givers." If you suddenly find yourself needing to know how to care for a loved one, you are not alone. About 50 million Americans care for a disabled, chronically ill or frail family member, and that number continues to grow as the US population ages. Utah County maintains one of the largest number per capita of family caregivers caregiv-ers in the United States. It is estimated that "there is not going to be one family fam-ily in America that is not impacted by caregiving at one time or another," said Suzanne Mintx. Many of these are sons, daughters, spouses or grandchildren who have had no formal training providing pro-viding care with limited help or information. The financial, physical and mental men-tal stress of the caregiver is often ignored as they strive to meet the needs of their elderly or disabled lived ones. The American Red Cross Coifflnunifyand Family Mght Monday at the art museum has been helping people learn how to take care of others for more then 100 years, and we want to help you, too.
