Show Comments Springville needs the park, Editor: The Springville Mayor and City Council's plan to build a new municipal munici-pal building complex reminds re-minds me of the words to Joni Mitchell's song, Big Yellow Taxi: "Don't it always seem to go, That you don't know what you've got 'Til it's gone, They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." I ask the citizens to focus for a moment on what will be LOST if this plan is pushed through. Gone is the City Park the peaceful and serene centerpiece of the town. Gone are the Library and Theatre. Gone are the picnic tables, the playgrounds, play-grounds, the trees and $78 a $106 value A. euphoria Calvin Klein. 2-piece set includes 3.4 oz. Eau de Parfum Spray and 6.7 oz. For how many of us have picnicked or held a family fam-ily reunion in this park? How many of our children chil-dren have played for hours on the lawns and playground equipment? Will your children ever again ride their bikes to the library for the afternoon? after-noon? What about Fris-bee Fris-bee and Nerf football for heaven's sake? If the city needs new offices then build in the West fields next to IHC or Wal-mart. Leave the police and fire department depart-ment where they stand. Government offices do not have to be the showcase show-case of the town. Why not keep our city centerpiece as it is? Why not keep our small town charm with a park for family gatherings instead of parking space. Why not keep the look and feel of Springville and keep our peaceful and serene City Park as it is? There on the stage of SHS auditorium I witnessed excellence ex-cellence in education. Students from the ages of 9 to 18, elementary through high school were singing for joy, for glory and singing for peace. The vocalteachers across the grade level spectrum are to be congratulated for their expertise and willingness willing-ness to spend all the additional addi-tional time it took to bring these students together in a performance. Submitting mission papers, pa-pers, as many of you know, requires medical and den-tal den-tal exams. Our grandson went to a local dentist for his exam and was shocked to find that the doctors x-rays showed he had 15 cavities that needed to be filled before be-fore he could submit his papers. This stressed him because even with the dentist's den-tist's discount to missionaries, mission-aries, the bill was $1,447. This was hard earned money mon-ey that he had saved at the rate of $10 per hour and put a considerable dent in this young mans finances. In the discussion that followed fol-lowed with his family there became some questions as to the validity of the exam and the cost. This young man has had over the years regular dental care and had no previous problems with his dental health. His teeth were sealed when in his The Springville Herald Customer Service 375-5103 489-5651 Fax 489-7021 239 1 400 S. The program's quote was by Leonard Bernstein, "This will be our reply to violence: vio-lence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, beauti-fully, more devotedly than ever before." I was deeply moved by their song and assured by the intensity, beauty and devotion of the students that there is hope for our future. Carol Day Mapleton youth and yearly checkups check-ups had not indicated any problems during his adolescent ado-lescent years. So the family decided to pay for a second opinion. The second dentist did a complete exam on his teeth including new x-rays and found that there was not one cavity on any of his teeth. And subsequently subsequent-ly signed his missionary forms and wished him well with no charge. Thank you Dr. James Ashman for being so honest hon-est in you dealings. It appears that even though we trust doctors and dentists with our care; it can be beneficial and prudent to get a second opinion.
