Jeremy Taylor gets service award Jeremy Taylor, custodian custodi-an at Art City School, was recognized with the Excellence Excel-lence in Service award. Taylor has worked for Nebo School District for 15 years, 10 of those at Art City. Taylor has been an integral in-tegral part of the inner workings at Art City. He is valued by administration, faculty, staff, students and patrons as one who makes Art City School such a great place to be. "People love Taylor because be-cause he is so approachable approach-able and personable. He relates well with students and adults alike and is very skillful at his occupation," said Dave Rowe, principal It is estimated while Taylor has worked at Art City that he has set up and picked up over 36,000 lunchroom tables, over 72,000 lunchroom benches Been There, Liz Elder Halloween was the only holiday my mom really got into because she didn't have to cook, it involved chocolate, and it was an easy way to actually make kids happy. I really like Halloween. We had a gate up to our front porch and to my horror, my dad propped it open one year with my entire collection of Nancy. Drew books, which were stolen. But in spite of that, I still love Halloween. My dad would swing the front door open and the light would flood out on the porch. He smoked a cigar and he was tall and loud and jovial. Little kids would cower in fear, but he gave full size candy bars, so it was okay. The crunch of leaves underfoot as kids in crazy outfits wandered around with their dad after dark, meeting the neighbors under un-der different, new, exotic circumstances. I loved it. The magic of the warm, spooky glow of houses half hidden in the shadows, not completely lit by the porch lights. I loved the thrill of getting a peek inside people's peo-ple's living rooms when they invited you in to pick your candy. This does not include the countless balls and shoes retrieved from the roof or over the fence, the runaway child searches, hundreds of miles worth of snow shoveling, hours of covering for the secretary, sec-retary, the teachers, the lunch workers, the recess supervisors and even the principal, or the deliveries, unpleasant clean-ups, car repairs, pumped up bike tires, first-aid moments and on and on. "Taylor is much more than a custodian. He is a true friend," said Rowe., Taylor represents not only Art City but also Nebo School District through his hard work and loyalty. He is well-known, liked and respected throughout the district and will continue to be a valuable asset to all who work with him. Bone That: night to be outside before it got too cold and you had to start wearing boots. Of course, sometimes, you had to wear boots and your coat. But, wow, wearing a costume, the fantasy of being be-ing a pirate, or a princess, or, my personal all time favorite, fa-vorite, a hobo. Dirty face, stick and a handkerchief, boom, you're done. Probably Proba-bly not very PC. I understand that this is a little after the fact, but I . didn't get very many trick or treat-ers this year, and I'm upset about it. I heard that it was packed downtown down-town and that the ward trunk or treat was sold out, . but, I was very disappointed. disappoint-ed. I wanted kids in my neighborhood, at my house. I have to wonder what's next-Christmas at the mall? We'll bring the kids ' and they can serve turkey on paper plates and we can , sing a couple of hymns and start browsing the post-Christmas post-Christmas sales? Could we sleep in tents around the parking lots and be there early on the 26th? Not to over-react, but people, this is how the Roman Ro-man Empire f ell. Fitzgerald has worked for the city since 1998 as the city attorney and has also acted as the personnel person-nel director and the risk manager since 2000. As the new administra- ---- 'vi? Jeremy Taylor Post Halloween Gripe Needless to say, I'm against community Easter egg hunts, too. What's causing .this? I think there are a few rea-sons-none of which are reasons that I like. One is efficiency: it's lots more efficient ef-ficient to have tricktrunk or treat in one big TaDa and get it over with. I like to multi-task as much as the next mom, but this is NOT a way to have a holiday. Doesn't anyone ever watch Martha Stewart anymore? We're supposed sup-posed to savor stuff, enjoy it. Five hundred kids running run-ning around downtown from store to store is not a savory experience. Not to mention the whole manners man-ners thing where your dad or mom tags along behind, be-hind, talking to the neighbors neigh-bors (DEMONSTRATING how to talk to neighbors), reminding you to say thanks. AND Halloween should be in the dark. It's supposed to be scary, for Pete's sake. The next possible reason is what my friend Ryan Shaw called "the Michael Jackson effect." The poison apple scenario. It is tragic that we live in a small town and we are scared to death of our neighbors. For one thing, the other solutions don't necessarily protect 410 South 450 West Springville, Utah 84663 801-489-9676 Dr. TEETH CLEANING! 1 pets "V V For Jf", I nnw I Ul IT 'call ; tor, Fitzgerald says he hopes to increase communication commu-nication with the community, commu-nity, the mayor and council coun-cil and other local government govern-ment entities in planning for the future of the city. He was raised in Somers, New York, and moved here in 1993. He attended BYU and holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry with a minor in Asian studies and a Juris Doctorate degree for the BYU Law School. Council talks about Martin Conover , SPRINGVILLE HERALD Growth problems were the topic of discussion at the Springville City Council Coun-cil meeting Tuesday. Brad Stapley, city public works director, said that the projects should be completed com-pleted in an orderly man-ner man-ner with planning before starting. He felt that if the pipe line from 1300 East to 950 West on 400 South is put in, the other projects planned for 900 South or Center Street should be put on hold to allow citizens to find alternate al-ternate routes around 400 South construction. He also indicated that his department has ramped up us. Just because someone's some-one's in a church parking lot doesn't mean she can't put a razor blade in your apple. You're supposed to go see nice people like me, people who are old, who are your neighbors. I'm not going to poison your M&M's. (If there are any left.) Doing things just because be-cause something might happen opens the door to just way too much crazi-ness, crazi-ness, like, for example, not eating candy because your teeth might fall out. Now that would probably be more of a real reason not to have Halloween downtown, down-town, or anywhere for that matter. So I'm against efficiency and community fear. I'm also a little bit against greed. Although, greed at Christmas and Easter and Halloween is really a part of the childhood code. So I won't go there rather than completely alienating every ev-ery one I know. So, don't think of me as the grinch who stole Halloween. Hal-loween. Okay, well, if you have to, you can. He fills the position left vacant by the resignation of Layne Long two weeks ago. the work they have been doing this year to get it ' completed early so they will be ready for the coming com-ing projects. Matt Hancock from the electric department met with the council and talked talk-ed about the progress the Utah Association of Municipal Mu-nicipal Power Systems is making on the Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Power Project unit three. Hancock said he has some reservations about the contract and some items which will tie the city's hands in purchasing purchas-ing power and must be addressed before he could recommend to the city that they become involved in the contract. After discussion the council recommended that he proceed in his talks at UAMPS and to keep the city's best interests at the top of his list. In other business, the council agreed to sign a contract with Aqua Engineering Engi-neering to work out plans for expanding the sewer plant. The city will pay ASK THE time brushing his teeth properly with the new braces. This in turn is causing his gum tissue to become inflamed due to the bacteria being left on the teeth from inadequate brushing and flossing. The first thing to do is to get him to brush and floss properly. This will most likely resolve the swelling. If he is doing a good job with the oral hygiene but the symptoms persist, you should take him to see the dentist. A professional cleaning may be in order. The dentist may also recommend a special toothpaste or rinse that will help the condition. It does take time to get used the all that new "stuff" on the teeth but if your son is diligent and spends some extra time cleaning his teeth properly, his teeth and his gums will most certainly cer-tainly benefit!
