Brookside residents want Martin Conover SPRINGVILLE HERALD A group of Brookside Subdivision Sub-division citizens met with the Springville City Council Tuesday evening to ask for a traffic signal at the intersection intersec-tion of Brookside Drive, 400 South and 800 East Streets, similar to the new signal at 400 South and 200 East. They pointed out to the council that with the construction con-struction of the new Brookside Brook-side Elementary School, the fast rate of travel by motorists motor-ists coming down the hill east of the intersection and grocery gro-cery store patrons, a signal has long been needed there. They cited many near miss traffic accidents and said several people have been hit in that intersectioa The reason the residents came to the meeting was to see if the desired traffic signal could be funded by a community development block grant (CDBG). Cost of the proposed traffic traf-fic signal was estimated to be over $300,000 because of a road realignment getting into the Brookside Subdivi-sioa Subdivi-sioa Mayor Gene Mangum explained ex-plained to the council about the proposed new railroad viaduct over the lower railroad rail-road tracks. It is presently proposed to be 100 feet wide to accommodate the five lanes of traffic and sidewalks, side-walks, contain a span of 285 feet, not including the ramps up and down, and the ramps themselves will go from the large transmission lines to the Walker Service Station on 400 South. He also said the ramps wl be contained with retain- I : book, "How to Eat Fried Fried new movie came to theatres just School to prove that not just boys UH WSttftSS ml traffic signal ing walls and "it will not be a small bridge." Estimated costs are presently in the $8 to $9 million range Mangum said. The council reported that police lockup at the skateboard skate-board park is helping solve problems at the park. In checking the site, skateboarders skate-boarders are not using the facility during school hours and after the park has been lockedup. It was proposed that the metal elements in the park be filled with concrete, sand or other material which will cut the noise. Perhaps sound barrier fences could be constructed con-structed on the south and west sides of the park. The council seemed to fa-vor fa-vor leaving the skateboard park in its present location as opposed to moving it to another an-other park. The council also approved installing a statue and base at the southwest corner of the stage complex at the arts park. They also approved writing writ-ing off $35,000 in bad debt accounts. ac-counts. "That $35,000 is a lot of money, but it is only .01 of the near $3 1 mfllion the city billed last year, which means the city collected 99.99 of its billing," said the mayor.
