Graham, an Ohio educator, invited 30 young people peo-ple to the county building to learn about agricultural experiments. The meeting was so well received that the gatherings continued on a regular basis, with the boys in the Agricultural Club and the girls in the Flower Club. In 1911. Graham's clubs com bined with other regional "Corn Clubs" to form the 4-H Club. The four-leaf clover, symbol of an Iowa youth movement, became the national symbol for the 4-H Club. In 1914, the Smith-Lever Act was passed, creating the Agricultural Extension Service, official sponsor of the 4-H Club.
