For those with strong stomachs only. (R) Plays Friday and Saturday at midnight, the Tower Theatre, 876 900 South, Salt Lake City. (801)321-0130. CONTINUING ALIEN VS PREDATOR (1 hr., 45 min.; PG-13 for violence, language, horror hor-ror images, slime and gore) Humans, aliens and predators tangle tan-gle in a spooky pyramid beneath the Antarctic ice. It's an epic battle of moronic proportions! C- ANACONDAS: THE HUNT FOR THE BLOOD ORCHID (1 hr., 33 min.; PG-13 PG-13 for action violence, scary images and some language) Intrepid capitalists capi-talists run afoul of giant, hungry snakes when they go to the jungles of Borneo to retrieve a rare flower. If you've seen the movie's trailer then you've already seen its most impressive stunt, but the silly story is surprisingly well told. C THE BOURNE SUPREMACY (1 hr., 48 min.; PG-13 for violence, intense action and brief language) Just like you don't talk about fight club, you don't mess with Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). The rogue agent's dreams of the simple life are dashed in this tense, sharply crafted craft-ed thriller. As before, Bourne's (supposed) allies find themselves in nearly as much danger as his (alleged) enemies. The Duff character's evil stepmother, stepmoth-er, played by Jennifer Coolidge, provides a few sassy chuckles, but the bland romance isn't even as good as what you'd get out of a Cinderella coloring book. D THE COOKOUT (1 hr., 37 min.; PG-13 for drug content, sexual references and language) When a middle-class black kid (Storm P) becomes the , first pick of the NBA draft, it's time for a celebration with family lots and lots of family. It's also time for jokes, few of which are fresh even if some are funny. Queen Latifah, who produced, is the unfunniest of the bunch as a security guard. C- HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (2 hrs., 21 min.; PG for frightening moments, creature violence and mild language) The third Harry Potter film is the first to truly capture the magic and mystery mys-tery of J.K. Rowling's beloved books. Director Alfonso Cuaron creates cre-ates a soul-stirring visual wonderland wonder-land and coaxes first-rate performances perfor-mances out of every last member of his cast. A HERO (1 hr., 36 min.; PG-13 for stylized styl-ized martial arts violence and a scene of sensuality) In pre-imperial China, a nameless warrior visits the court of the King of Qin and Tickets available at all Ticketmaster locations including the Thanksgiving Point Barn Box Office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone (801) 325-SEAT unfolds a remarkable tale that becomes a battle of wits. A superb cast buoys the clever story and cin-ematographer cin-ematographer Christopher Doyle and director Zhang Yimou use bright color and breathtaking imagery to frame the action. A I, ROBOT (1 hr., 53 min.; PG-13 for intense stylized action and some brief partial nudity) Will Smith is chiseled, confident and energetic in his best action hero role since "Men in Black." The movie claims to have been "suggested" by Isaac Asimov's famous collection of stories, sto-ries, the better to absolve its makers mak-ers of any obligation to honor the complexity, or intelligence of Asimov's work. B NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (1 hr., 26 min.; PG for thematic elements and language) Welcome to the profoundly pro-foundly unthrilling daily existence of Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder), the least hip teen in Preston, Idaho possibly in America. It's a gradual grad-ual process, but Napoleon, with his distinctive lingo and uniquely mundane mun-dane personal agenda, will win you . over. So will the movie. A PAPARAZZI (1 hr., 30 min.; PG-13 for intense violent sequences, sexual content and language) Thou shalt hot kill. Unless, like, some annoying photographer keeps getting all up in your face, in which case, let the cold-blooded murder begin. Cole Hauser is the bumpkin turned matinee mati-nee idol with anger issues; Tom Sizemore is the eeee-vil shutterbug who torments him. Enjoyably bad trash. D THE PRINCESS DIARIES 2: ROYAL ENGAGEMENT (1 hr., 53 min.; G) I'll take Useless Sequels for $1000, Alex. The most notable thing that happens in this very forgettable film is that Julie Andrews breaks into full-throated song in a movie for the first time since ,a 1 997 throat operation. Anne Hathaway is perky as ever, but neither she nor Andrews can make this worth your time. D SAINTS AND SOLDIERS (7 hr., 30 min.; PG-13 for war violence and related images) Filmed locally and directed by BYU graduate Ryan Little, this tense, intelligent drama earns a place of honor among the large library of classic World War II movies. It's a celebration of all things Toback, with visual reminders re-minders of some of his earlier films ("Two Girls and a Guy," "Black and White"), an appearance ap-pearance by his buddy, Mike Tyson (pretending not to be Mike Tyson), and a cameo from the writer-director himself him-self as a Columbia University professor of racial studies. Toback's latest film also is about architecture on Manhattan's Manhat-tan's West Side, Internet porn, and rap versus classical music. But as scattered as all that may sound, "When Will I Be Loved" is mainly an homage to Neve Campbell or at least to her backside, still perfectly per-fectly toned from the rigorous training she underwent for Robert Altman's ballet film "The Company." Nude Neve frames the film in long, luxurious luxuri-ous shower scenes; the camera cam-era loves her, and she loves herself with the help of a detachable de-tachable nozzle. As Vera, the spoiled, sexually, sexual-ly, adventurous daughter of a wealthy New York couple, she's also intimate with two different men and a woman, and she picks up on a couple of guys she meets randomly on the street. Toback jumps jarringly between be-tween her escapades and those of her sleazy boyfriend, Ford (Frederick Weller), whose schemes include telling pretty, young women that he can hook them up with hip-hop hip-hop multi-hyphenate Damon Dash to lure them into group sex in Central Park. He has no qualms about exploiting ex-ploiting Vera for his own personal per-sonal and financial gain, ei- CHAMBERLAIN' SEE Offer Ends 91604 Better Rexton Targa 2 100 Digital Signal Processing 2 Channels . 2 Bands Adjustable Feedback Suppression Microphone Noise Reduction Power On Delay Low Battery Warning C2 $995.. 2 Review When Will I Be Loved Director James Toback Cast Neve Campbell, Frederick Weller, Dominic Chianese, Mike Tyson Running time: 1 hr., 29 min. Rated: R for strong sexuality, nudity and language Location: Opens Friday in select cities ther. In a twist on "Indecent Proposal," he offers to let an aging Italian count (Dominic Chianese, Uncle Junior from "The Sopranos") have sex with her in exchange for $100,000. As you've probably figured out by now, no one is redeemable re-deemable in this thing. Everyone Every-one wants something from everyone else, and no one has any problems with manipulation. manipula-tion. But Vera's afternoon with the count at her multi-tiered multi-tiered loft is strangely sweet despite its innate skeevi-ness skeevi-ness because he's as nervous ner-vous as a schoolboy and she's disarmingly self-assured. The scene one of the film's longest and easily its most engaging is emblematic emblemat-ic of Campbell's versatility as an actress, and her ability to connect with the audience. Despite De-spite material that could alienate alien-ate viewers, she's fearless, constantly evolving and surprising sur-prising as she alternates between be-tween jumping up and down on the bed like a little girl and negotiating her "asking fee" with the billionaire count with the sophistication and finesse of a grown woman. Campbell is hard to resist at least when Toback gives us the chance to enjoy her as much as she enjoys herself. "We take prids in our work!" -Rick J.
