Show Page Fourteen - The Springville Herald - November 17, 1999 j& Children's book sale The Friends of the Library Bookstore is celebrating National Na-tional Children's Book week November 15-20 by reducing prices on all used children's and youth books. New children's child-ren's books are also available in the store at reduced prices. All proceeds from the sales of these books go directly to support library projects and programs. The bookstore, located directly oulside the library doors in the foyer of the city building, is manned by volunteers. volun-teers. To volunteer, please call Debra Wells, 489-6723. Donations of used books are also sought for sale in the bookstore. You may drop these off at the library or call Wells to arrange for pick-up. Six polar bears have joined the Festival of Lights this y ear in Spanish Fork. The popular drive-through festival begins Thanksgiving evening and continues nightly through New Year's Day, with lights on from 6 to 10 p.m. There is a charge per car. Drive through a winter wonderland The Festival of Lights, Utah's only drive-thru lights festival, is celebrating its seventh year as a holiday delight for families. Canyon View Park is filled with bright and colorful lights. Lights cover trees, arch over the road, reflect in the lake and illuminate over 86 structures within the park. The displays can actually be seen glowing from a mile away due to the effect of so many lights! Festival of Lights brings with it the spirit of the holidays, with music filling the air for the drive around the park. New features are added each year to bring additional beauty and magical charm to the event. Thousands of families come to the park as a new annual tradition to take a drive through the winter wonder land. Celebrate the season with your family this year at Festival of Lights. The event begins Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing evening and continues nightly through New Year's Day, with lights on at 6 p.m. and continuing continu-ing until 10 p.m. (please note these hours are new this year). The cost is $5 per carload or $25 per schooltour bus. Gift certificates certifi-cates are also available at the Spanish Fork City Office for $5. To attend Festival of Lights, take southbound Interstate 15 to exit 261, or northbound Interstate 15 to exit 260. Travel southeast, along Highway 214 for five miles. Turn right at Little Acorn Drive-In Restaurant. For more information, please contact Spanish Fork City at 798-5000 Santa Claus in Springville Sat, Nov. 27 The Springville Area Chamber of Commerce and AirSwitch will sponsor Santa Claus as he visits Springville and Mapleton children on Sat., Nov. 27. Santa will lead the parade down Main Street at 11 a.m. that day. After the parade, Mr. Claus will be at the Springville Spring-ville City Center in the lobby until 2 p.m. with treats for the kids. And AirSwitch will be there to take pictures of the kids with Santa. Cost is only $1 per picture. The Veterans Day Fund-raising dinner of the American Legion and Auxiliary was enjoyed by over sixty members and guests last Wednesday. Marva Davis, President, introduced Bob Jones, past Director of the Homeless Veterans Fellowship Fellow-ship in Ogden, who explained the needs and goals of the organization. They provide rooms and apartments in two homes in Ogden and would welcome the things that are needed in any of our homes, such as small appliances, cookware, dishes and flatwareall in good vorking orderbedding,, towels and personal hygiene items. And of course money is always needed as well as good clothing. Cara Knight, daughter of Jay and Charlene Knight and granddaughter of Legion members Max and Kolene Knight, sang two patriotic solos. Ret. Lt. Col. Fritz Boyer, recounted his experiences during his 30 year career in the military. He covered many assignments from NATO in Europe to two tours of duty in Vietnam and many other places. The proceeds from the dinner will go to the World War II Memorial to be built on the mall between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Also a monetary donation will be made to the Homeless Home-less Veterans Fellowship by the Legion and Aux.
