If you're like most Americans, Ameri-cans, not even famous celebrities hawking milk can make you drink the stuff. Per capita sales of milk slipped another 1 in 1997, following a 20 drop since 1971. Though sales of low fat and nonfat milk have more than doubled since then, that hasn't made up for the 65 drop in consumption of whole milk. The dairy industry is now wondering if milk doesn't sell because it isn't brightly packaged and marketed mar-keted like juices, bottled water and sodas. In the future, look for more resealable plastic containers, contain-ers, and milk available in more flavored varieties like chocolate and strawberry. You'll also be more likely to find milk in vending vend-ing machines, convenience stores and fast-food restaurants. The industry hopes to target teenagers, teenag-ers, who have a lot more buying power these days.
