Leo Herbert Leo Herbert, 84, formerly of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed from this life at his home in Springville on Saturday, August 10, after a valiant val-iant struggle with cancer. He was born in Douglas, Arizona, on March 7, 1912, to Kumen Onhi and Urilla Whipple Herbert. He married Ruth Parker on June 30, ,1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died on April 20, 1981. Leo received his Bachelors Degree in 1939 from Brigham ..Young University. He earned an MBA degree in 1941 and a Ph.D. in 1944 from Louisiana State University. He was a Certified Public Accountant Ac-countant in Utah and Louisiana. Dr. Herbert held teaching positions at LSU and BYU before becoming Department Head in Business Administration Admin-istration at Louisiana Tech in 1948. He was appointed Assistant State Auditor of Louisiana in 1952. In 1956 he moved to Arlington, VA " and was appointed director, Office, of Staff Management Manage-ment at the ' General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C., where he was responsi-. ble for. recruiting and training professional accountants. Upon his retirement in 1974, Dr. Herbert became a professor profes-sor at Virginia Tech and a consultant to the Comptroller Com-ptroller General of the U.S., and the United Nations in Gambia and the Philippines. He has published numerous books and articles on auditing. At the time of his death, he was Professor Profes-sor Emeritus of Account- ing at Virginia Tech and was writing a personal favorite book on setting and achieving goals. Most of his adult life was spent in Orem and Mapleton. Elvin served a stake mission in the Sharon Stake. He was an ordinance ordi-nance worker , in the Manti LDS Temple. She and Don celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary anniversa-ry in 1995 with all their family and friends. Dorothy had an unconditional un-conditional love for others. Throughout her lifetime she was active in the LDS Church and held numerous positions including Primary president, presi-dent, visiting teacher and working in the MIA and Relief Society. He was born ' April 13, 1915 in Geyser, Gey-ser, Montana, to Martin Vanburen and Nora Bessie Urie Grove. He married Alberta Jane Owens August 25, 1938 in Litchfield Park, Arizona. Ari-zona. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on February Febru-ary 8, 1963. She died April 14, 1993. He was a High Priest in the LDS Church and served in numerous church callings including, includ-ing, Sunday School, the , Name Extraction Center in Spanish Fork and temple work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, farm-ing, auto mechanics and spending quality time with his family. While in high school he was. active in the Future Farmers of America where he won state in the agriculture division. He won various outstanding out-standing employee awards from Boeing Aircraft. He is survived by four daughters and one son: Norma Brehmer, Chicago, IL; Ethel El- Griffin Griffin Judd Law, 28, died in a swimming accident July 20, 1996 at Causey Reservoir near Huntsville, Utah. Griffin was born July 27, 1967 in Provo, Utah to Newell Joseph and Gay Whiting Law. He graduated from Springville Spring-ville High School in 1985. He married Sherry Lyn Nelson of Springville; Spring-ville; they had one child, Collin, and were later divorced. He was married mar-ried to Marianne Ras-mussen Ras-mussen of American Fork at the time of his death. 'As a teen, Griffin was involved in BMX bicycle racing. He was Rider of the Year for the Utah region in Cruiser jClass. He was nationally ranked and won over 700 trophies. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours in the mountains moun-tains hiking, biking and camping with family and friends. He was a member of the LDS Church and an LDS Seminary graduate. He was also a member of NA and inspired many to make positive changes in their lives. He loved his family, friends and all those who he associated with. 1996 - The Springville Dorothy M. Bird happiest spending time with her family, especially espe-cially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They thought Grandma Bird was absolutely wonderful. She loved gardening and, being from England, she always al-ways had beautiful flower flow-er gardens surrounding her homes. Though in later years her arthritis slowed her down, she still maintained her beautiful flower gardens. She is survived by her husband, Don; her five children: Terry, Jacque, David, Holly and John; 18 grandchildren grandchil-dren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived sur-vived by two brothers and one sister: Kay Hair, Sandy; Enid Tatton, Twin Falls, ID; and Dale Hair, Orem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and eldest daughter, Nila Jean Stone. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 13. Burial was in the Leamington City Cemetery. Ceme-tery.
