Christensen of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Karla, to Mr. Timothy J. Sheehan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick J. Sheehan of Ogden. The couple plans to be married on Saturday, April 28, 1990 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The bride's parents will honor the newlyweds at a brunch at Little America Hotel, and an open house will be held in Ogden the same evening. The bride-to-be is a 1987 graduate of Wayne High School in Dayton, Ohio. She is currently attending Brigham Young University. Univer-sity. ' The prospective groom is a 1984 graduate of Weber High School and is also attending BYU. He served an LDS mission in Santiago, Chile. The couple will make their first home in Provo. Grandparents of the bride are Glen and Ina Christensen and Russell and Afton Frandsen, all of Springville. Velma Hutchings conducted the meeting and welcomed the members and two special guests, Jerry Fackrell and Adalene Underwood, company officers. Capt. Betty Diamond gave details on the upcoming convention con-vention on May 14 at the Hobble Hob-ble Creek Stake House. Ina Pitcher gave the history of her great-grandfather, Solomon D. Chase. He was born April 10, 1818 in Bristol, Vermont to Abner Chase and Amy Scott. Solomon's father died when he was ten years old leaving a wife and nine children. Solomon went to live with his Aaron Johnson DUP Camp Aaron Johnson DUP held their meeting April 12 at the home of Thora Witney. They were reminded of the Regional Convention to be held at the Hobble Creek Stake on May 14. The lesson on Landmarks ind Events along the Historic Mormon Trail was given by class leader Jessie Lowe. The journey of the Mormons from the Mississippi River to Utah is one of the most dramatic 'episodes in the history of the American Frontier. Normally this trek could have been made without much hardship, but the Saints had left in haste and were inadequately supplied with the necessities of life. She told of many crossings and landmarks including Winter Quarters, Sugar Creek, Rebecca Winter's grave, Scotts Bluff, Fort Laramie, Fort Bridger, Echo Canyon, Immigration Im-migration Canyon, This is the Place Monument, and finally arriving in Salt Lake Valley. Alt'- Daniel John Sparks, son of Joseph and Kristina Sparks of Portland, Oregon, celebrated his first birthday on April 22, 1990. His proud grandparents are John and Dianne Sparks and Carolyn Shepherd, all of Springville, and DeRay Shepherd of Los Angeles, California. Camp Calico Camp Calico held its April meeting at the home of Captola Murdock. Raynor Hatfield and Lucile Ivie were assisting hostesses. hos-tesses. Captain Margaret Conovcr conducted the meeting. She announced that the DUP Tri-County Tri-County Convention will be held May 14 at the Hobble Creek Stake House at 10 a.m. A representative from the National Na-tional Committee from Salt Lake City will be the speaker, at the noon luncheon. Ruth Winn completed giving the "History of Niels Christian Ni( lsen," after which the group sar.4 'Come, Come Ye Saints." Th story lesson, "Landmarks anc Events Along the Historic Mormon Trail" was presented bv Mav Grocsbeck. Sheehan brother and uncle and learned the carpenter trade. He married Lydia Ann Thorn April 19, 1840 and shortly after, joined a company which consisted of ten men and their family who were all relatives. They left Council Bluff for their journey to Salt Lake City around September 10, 1840. Solomon settled in Springville in 1858. He built many businesses and homes in Springville. He was a contractor, contrac-tor, carpenter, blacksmith and a skilled mechanic. He was also a doctor and an undertaker and filled many civic positions. He died February 22 1891. Ilene Coffman gave the lesson les-son entitled, "Landmarks Along the Historic Mormon Trail." ' Home Culture The Home Culture Club met at the home of Mrs. Max Al-leman Al-leman Friday. President Grace Alleman conducted the meeting meet-ing and announced the newly elected officers for the coming year, - President, Mrs. Eldon Perry; Vice-President, Mrs. Lyman Davies; Secretary, Mrs. Walter Fowler; and Treasurer, Mrs. Hortense Harward. ' A delicious lunch was served to ten members and one guest, Mrs. Richard Larsen.
