P. i Si w ' s V 5: Si i-'.T fa :4 1 Page Eight - The Springville Herald - April ), mi Nebo Aquatics Club cprners ribbons in win Several of the Nebo Aquatics Club AAU Swim Team members competed com-peted recently at Granite High School in Salt Lake City, bringing home a variety of ribbons for their efforts. Ribbons were awarded for first through sixth places in this C B Meet. In the six and under age group John Penrod brought home two firsts in the 25 and 50-yard freestyle c-heat events; he also placed second in the 25-yard c-heat backstroke. Tara Huff for the girls won a second in the 50-yard c-heat freestyle and two third places in the 25-yard backstroke and the 25-yard 25-yard freestyle both in the c-heat division. In the eight and under age bracket three swimmers, Joel Christiansen, Lara Huff, and Amyee Hatfield competed. Joel took first in the c-heat 50-yard butterfly and fourth in the c-heat 100-yard freestyle. Lara placed first in the 100-yard freestyle c-heat, and also took three seconds in the 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard butterfly, the 50-yard freestyle, all in the c-heat events. Amyee took first in the 50-yard backstroke, the 50-yard freestyle and took two third places in the 50-yard butterfly and 100-yard individual medley, and a fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke, all in the c heat events. Molly Cox represented the 9-10 age group girls and Marc Penrod the boys. Molly won a first in the 1 50-yard butterfly, a second in the 50-yard backstroke. Her time was good enough for a B-Time and she received a certificate cer-tificate for that. She also took third in the 100-yard freestyle and a fourth in the 50-yard freestyle all in the c-heat events. Marc brought home a second in the 50-yard breaststroke, and also placed in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. There was only one swimmer from the NAC in the 11-12 age group, Kendalle Harmer. All of her events were in the b-heat. b-heat. She Rock club plans gem, mineral show Timpanogos Gem and Mineral Society will present its 23rd annual "Parade of Gems" rock show featuring two decades of expertice in lapidary work, silver-smithing, silver-smithing, artifacts and many special ties in the art of rock-hounding. Displays and dealers from United States, Mexico and Australia will enlighten the show. The public is invited to attend the free show at the Utah Technical College, Orem Campus, April 10, 11, between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12. Door prizes, grab bags and a silent auction will be held all day each day with "Grand Prize" drawing April 12, at 3 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided by campus cafeteria. The Middle School will allow one "Athon" a year to go through the school. This year the Jumprope Athon for heart has been chosen under the direction of the girls P.E. Dept. Interested students of the Middle School will collect pledges (requested 2 cents a minute) for how long their group of six can Springville Mapleton senior citizens held a successful suc-cessful hobby show last Wednesday. The old fashioned rag rugs are a popular item with the senior citizens. Hobby show successful The Springville Mapleton Senior Citizens had a very successful Hobby Show Wednesday April 1. Bernice Cranmer, director of the quilting and sewing section was in charge, with Burl Tanner, director of ceramics and Gwen Tippitts director of rug weaving and many other ladies helping. Many ladies displayed quilts, afghans, ceramics and other items. The attendance was very good and punch and cookies were served during the afternoon. Matthew Clyde Gam-mell, Gam-mell, the son of Clyde and Gayle Whiting Gammell, will have his first birthday on Friday, April 10th. Matthew has three older sisters. His grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Blake H. Gammell and Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Whiting. Matthew also has four great - grandparents. Roping school rescheduled, re-located Hobble Creek Riding Club roping school scheduled last Friday at the Hobble Creek Arena had to be relocated because of muddy ground, according to Boyd Lehmberg, president. The school will be held again for the next four weeks on Fridays at 7p.m. in the Springville High School indoor track area. The school is free to the public, as well as club members, but interested persons should bring team roping heads to the school.
