It was obvious from the opening number to the dancers' curtain call that Craig Call's choreography was the hit of the show. Those dances which featured numerous players were exciting, crisp, and professionally executed, especially those involving the locker room high jinx of the losing but loveable Washington baseball team. At moments, however, Call's choreography got in the way of otherwise fine performances. Linda Cameron as Lola was required to perform two numbers which appeared, at times, to be more contortionistic than slinky, but she managed to carry them off rather well. Jane Bell Axson, perhaps the finest singer in the show, played the wife well although she appeared a little young for the part. Joel A. Osborne got off to a shaky start in a scene with Jones which worked no better than his special effects, but warmed up to the character of Ap-plegate Ap-plegate and finally captured some of Ap-plegate's Ap-plegate's devilish charm in "The Good Old Days." Humorous moments in the play were lightly overplayed by Pamela Murphy .and Tanya Behunin as two of the fans who "suffered so" for their team. The real delights, however, were the locker room moments with Spencer Ashby and other team members, all of whom were excellent. run through May 23.
