(Jerry) Ferguson has recently been appointed a major in the Utah National Guard, according to Maurice L. Watts, Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard. Ferguson, a resident of Orem, is the Operations Officer for the 115th Engineer Group headquartered in Murray. Prior to his appointment ap-pointment to his post, Major Ferguson was a member of the Arizona Phillip 0. Peay earns promotion Phillip 0. Peay of Mapleton has recently been promoted to major, according to Maurice L. Watts, Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard. He later received a master of business administration degree from Arizona State University. Major Ferguson is the son of the late Howard B. Ferguson and Elizabeth G. Palfreyman of Springville. Mack Crandall H. Mack Crandall, 65, 400 W. 4775 S., Ogden, died Saturday Jan. 6, 1978 in St. Benedict's Hospital of a heart attack. He was born Feb. 27, 1913, in Springville, son of Myron and Harriett Kindred Crandall. He married Madge Wheeler in Springville, April 15, 1931. He had lived in Weber County the past 35 years and had been employed as an accountant for the Parsons Ready Mix Company. He was a member of the LDS Church and the Ogden Elks' Lodge. Survivors include his widow of Ogden; three sons, Gary Crandall of Salt Lake City; Robert and Ted Crandall, both of Ogden; eight grandchildren; grand-children; one greatgrandchild; great-grandchild; his mother of Springville; one brother and two sisters, Nathan Crandall and Josephine Young, both of Springville; Ruth Carter, ,Orem. Funeral was Tuesday in the Larkin and Sons Mortuary in Ogden, 496 24th Street. Burial will be in Washington Heights Memorial Park. In leiu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Primary Childrens Medical Center. Alberta Lester Graveside services for Alberta Houtz Shepherd Lester, 90 who died Tuesday, Jan 2, 1979, were held in the Springville City Cemetery under direction of Eastman's Evans and Early Mortuary of Salt Lake City. A native of Springville, Mrs. Lester was born Feb 22, 1888 to Joseph O. and Elizabeth Brinton Houtz. She married James Herbert Shepherd on April 2, 1908 in Springville, and he died Dec. 13, 1942. She then married Franklin M. Lester on May 9, 1946 in Evanston, Wyo., and he died July 12, 1968. Mrs. Lester was educated in Springville schools. After her first marriage, they lived in several Utah towns. She was a professional seamstress in Salt Lake City after her second marriage. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Virginia S., Keith, Modesto, Calif.; two grandchildren; three great-granchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Salsbury, Salt Lake City. Larsen Max Atherley Larsen, 50, died of a lingering illness Sunday, Jan. 7, 1979, in a Riverton hospital. He was born Sept. 3, 1928 in Vemon, Tooele County, to Glen L. and Reva Kathleen Atherley Larsen. He had been married and divorced. Survivors include one son and two daughters, Jon Max Larsen, Jeffery City, Wyo. ; Mrs. Charles (Connie) Fenton, Riverton, Wyo.; Jo Dee Larsen, Hiland, Wyo.; three grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, John L. Larsen, Lloyd Larsen, Leslie Larsen, all of Riverton Wyo.; Mrs. Sharon (Marian) Seamons, Orem; Mrs. Hugh (Glennis) Kirkendall, Salt Lake City; Lola Richardson, Provo; Mrs. Wayne (Carol) Terry, Mrs. Larry (Lois) Peterson, both of Springville. Full military rites accorded by VFW District 4. Burial was in the Provo City Cemetery. Ruth Parker Ruth Prestwich Clawson Parker, 61, died Tuesday, Jan 2, 1979. She was the mother of a Springville woman. She was born Jan 11, 1917 in Salt Lake City to Elgin Little and Jessie Prestwich Clawson. She married Marvin Bagley Parker June 25, 1937 in San Francisco. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she held positions in all of the auxiliary organizations. She was a member of the Las Vegas 34th Ward. She was a nurse in California, Nevada and Arizona. Survivors include her husband two sons and two daughters, Gary Fred Parker, Richard "Rick" Bruce Parker both of Las Vegas; Mrs. Glen (Marilyn) Harding, Springville; Mrs. Scott (Sandra) Young, Livermore, Calif.; eight grandchildren; mother, San Francisco, and one sister Helen Mabry, Boulder City, Nev. Nixon Funeral service for Dr. James William Nixon III, 89, of Provo, who died at his borne Thursday, Jan. 4, 1979 were Tuesday in the Provo LDS Fourth Ward Cahpel, 101 W. 800 N., under the direction of Bishop Paul Ludwig. Dr. Nixon was born June 5, 1889 in Huntington, Hun-tington, Emery County, a son of James William II and Effie Dean Woolley Nixon. He married Margaret Lea on Dec. 21, 1918 in New York City, and the marriage was solemnized two weeks later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Nov. 18, 1974. Survivors include one son and three daughters, Jim W. Nixon IV, Provo; Mrs. Oral (Grace) Johansen, Castle Dale; Mrs. Marjorie Dean Robinson, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Bruce (Phyllis) Mendenhall, Mapletop; 12 grandchildren; grand-children; 18 greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Ezra Nixon, Logan; Jesco Nixon, Arlington, Va., and Mrs. Grace Nixon Stewart, Salt Lake City. Interment was in East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo. Carl E. Poulsen Funeral services for Carl E. Poulsen, 69, of Spanish Fork, who died Sunday Jan. 7, 1979 in the Payson Hospital, will be Thursday at noon in Spanish Fork Second Ward Chapel. Mr. Poulsen was born April 6, 1909 in Lake Shore, a son of Peter and Mary Ann Thompson Poulsen. He married Marie Rivers on May 27, 1942 in Salt Lake LDS Temple, and they were later divorced. Mr. Poulsen was a journeyman pipefitter on construction. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Richard C. Poulsen and Robert Poulsen, both of Springville; Mrs. Hal (Karen) Brown and Margrethe Poulsen, both of Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters, Andrew Poulsen and Martin Poulsen both of Spanish Fork; Peter L. Poulsen, Baker, Ore.; Frank Poulsen, Bountiful; Boun-tiful; Mrs. Mack (Lisa) Roberts and Mrs. Reed (Marie) Hall, both of Provo, and Mrs. Glen (Ann) Larsen, California. Sumsion; son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Sumsion of 110 East 100 North, Springville, has arrived for duty at Beale v AFB, Calif. Captain Sumsion, a KC-135 KC-135 Stratotanker pilot with a unit of the Strategic Air Command, previously served at Loring AFB, Maine. The captain, a 1965 graduate of Springville High School, received his "B.S. degree in zoology from Brigham Young University and was commissioned there in 1971 through the Air Force Reserve officers Training Corps program.
