The Red Devils lost their The Pleasant Grove Vikings employed a devastating running attack, led by Dave Swenson, Gary Moosman and Blair Caldwell, in handing the Springville Red Devils their first loss of the season last Thursday. Thur-sday. The Devils have a bye this week, but will be working to prepare for their first 3-A State Tournament game, which will be on November 3rd. Although this loss was of course not beneficial to the Devils in any great manner, the players and coaches can take a small amount of solace in the fact that they know now that they can be beat, and they may have a greater knowledge of the tough road they must face to achieve a pionship. Pleasant state cham- Grove, after good defense displaying on Springville's first two possessions, scored first upon completing a 60-yard 60-yard drive. The key play of the long, time-consuming time-consuming drive came when Pleasant Grove faced a fourth down and eight situation at Springville's 33-yard line. Gary Moosmen, Pleasant Grove's quarterback, tossed a beautiful pass to tailback Blair Caldwell, who made an equally spectacular catch, wrestling the ball away from the Devil defender at the 3-yard line. Moosman then carried the football to the one, and on the next play Caldwell scored. The point-after kick was good, and with 1:16 left in the first quarter, P.G. had the lead Springville had several potential scoring drives sniffed in the second quarter, as penalties nullified good gains, but FILE CABINETS! Pleasant Grove set the pace for the second half, and consequently, the game, as they received the kickoff and marched 64 yards for their second score. Dave Swenson and Caldwell chewed off large chunks of yardage on the drive, and with Moosman's running of the option play almost perfect, per-fect, there wasn't even a need for the pass. Swenson scored this time from four yards out. John DeHass blocked the extra point try, so it was 13-0 with 8:16 left in the third quarter. Todd Tanner and Mark Harding combined for three first downs on the next Devil possession, but a holding penalty again cost the Devils an opportunity, op-portunity, and they were forced to punt. Springville finally scored as the fourth quarter began. A reverse by Curt Alleman and a bruising run by John DeHaas set the Devils on the P.G. 17-yard line. Todd Whiting then grasped a Harding pass over the middle for a touchdown, and the Devils were back in the game. Ken Howell's kick split the uprights, and Springville still had almost ten minutes to overcome the six-point deficit they faced. Pleasant Grove returned the ensuing cickoff all the way to the 50-yard line, and the great ground attack of the Vikes again knocked off valuable time and also good yardage as they moved towards the clinching score. Bannister, show producer and president of Bannister and Associates, Coloumbus, Ohio based show promotion and management firm. Citing the reasons for cancelling the planned 4-day 4-day public show, Bannister Ban-nister points to an overall lack of interest and support from area merchants, particularly sporting goods stores, ski shops and snowmobile dealers. "Even the local ski resorts are not showing the necessary tory for themselves. Springville was the second team in three weeks which encountered an initial loss at the hands of the Vikes, and seeing the excellent game they played, it was hard to understand how Pleasant Grove ever lost three games. vJLbL5LIVl LrAo UNACrvLziUVJ support and enthusiasm needed," bemoans the veteran showman, "to make this kind of exposition ex-position expected for one of the country's finest ski and winter recreation areas," More oranges come from Florida than anywhere else on earth : over 70 million boxes annually.
