Show 'Page Six - The Springville Herald - October 26, 1978 It makes cents Dear Vi: I enjoy reading your column. The one on removing mildew stains on a mat reminded . me of how I clean our shower an easy way. Put' liquid bleach in a squirt bottle and spray inside, the shower. Adjust the. nozzle to reach the spots on the ceiling and walls and rinse it off. Carol Kennington,, Fresno, Calif.' Yes, and you can do the rinsing while taking your shower. As you say, easy t does it. Dear Vi: I love the smell of clothes dried in the fresh air and the saving effect by not using the drier on sunny days. I don't like the resulting wrinkles and stiffness, however, especially with bath towels and denim pants. The answer: Put the clothes in the dryer first, just long enough to get out the wrinkles, then hang outside. The clothes dry as soft and fluffy as though dried in the dryer and you still get that good fresh-air smell. Pauline Denney, Bloomington, Utah Dear Vi: It seems like kids just have to have all of their toys about them. Here's how I cope with the resulting clutter so that it doesn't "drive me bananas." First of all, I made a drawstring bag out of an old pillowcase to hold the toys. Then I got sturdy boxes with good lids for separating small toys and toys with many parts, They're Here! I limit the number of toys that can be out at one time,, and when the kids play with building bricks or tinker toys, etc., I spread a sheet or blanket on the floor. This way, the boys can be gathered quickly by merely picking up the blanket by its corners and letting them fall to the center. I insist that the toys be reassembled in their proper places, and quite often I put some of them away for a few months. The children think they have new toys when you get them out again. Vicki Shultz, Salt Lake City. I especially like the blanket or sheet idea, vicki. I can see how quickly a room could be tidied up when company, comes unexpectedly, ( even if the re-assembling had to wait until later. And I heartily approve of puffing some "of Che toys away for awhile when the children begin to tire of them. When one organizes and follows through, -as 'you seem to do, homemaking becomes so much simpler. Dear Vi:1 Help! I can't get the wrinkles out of my white polyester uniform. I've tried re-washing, drying with wet bathtowels, ironing while wet, hanging dripping wet. Nothing seems to work. Ivy M. Pocatello, Idaho , Dear Ivy: Try spray starch with a warm iron. to 20 14 Vi to 24 Vz Springville MO w 1 2rcuKK i &&&&& Also try a hot iron over a pressing cloth wring out of a solution of half water and white vinegar. Wrinkles are caused by a sudden temperature change or cooling while, crumpled and wet, so wash your uniforms in the delicate fabric setting in warm water. Remove immedia'tely. Dry on a hanger or on delicate setting in the drier. Remove immediately. (Better to remove the garmet while still damp and let it finish drying on a hanger than to overheat.) Good luck. j Dear Readers: This is a true story: A marriage was about to fail because the husband's temper and critical nature was slowly crushing the spirit of his timid, defensive wife. One day, when she (having been called to the telephone) let the stew burn, he, in his usual, manner, berated her shamefully. As he raged, however, the absurdity of it all overwhelmed her. Why should he be angry? Didn't she" feel bad enough already? Wasn't she the one who had to prepare dinner all over again? And scrub the burned pan? And stretch the food budget to make up for the loss? Wasn't she also hungry, and didn't she also have to wait for her dinner? So, just like that, she calmly told him how she felt. She also told him she would no longer tolerate his abuse. At that moment a miracle began. Her defensive nature slowly slipped away and with its passing came harmony in that home. All because she learned to respect herself and to demand respect from him. Readers: This feature is your feature. Keep your good ideas coming.
