"TV has destroyed the responsibility of institutions," blurts Nell Postman, a New York University professor. "It goes into competition with the school for the attention and respect of the students. It also helps erode the integrity of the family because it presents different options for children, portraying kids with guns and drugs." A University of Utah study showed half of 50,000 children cherished their TVs more than their fathers. "Children are watching TV too much and not doing things first hand," claims Dr. Ruth Lungren, assistant education professor at the University of Utah. "They're on the fringes of experience if they learn everything by passively watching TV. Yesterday's child was more work-oriented. Today's child is almost a creature of television." . . . That sexy poster of Farrah Fawcett-Majors in a wet swimsuit is the biggest selling poster in history. "They wanted me in a bikini," reveals Farrah. "I said no. Then they wanted me looking out from behind a tree, you know, acting seductive. I said, 'No, that's not me.' I wanted to be smiling. Happy. The reason I decided to do a poster was, well, if you don't sign a deal to do one, somebody does one anyway, and then you get nothing. Now they're calling me about putting my picture on bedsheets and pillowcases!" . . . Steve Ford, the 20-year-old son of former President Ford, will have an NBC-TV NBC-TV series in the fall, featuring Steve as a rodeo star. Walker the household head. But now producers want J.J.'s mother, portrayed by Esther Rolle, to remarry. Moses Gunn will be her husband next season. INSIDE THE TUBE: "I realize the best way Is one man and one woman together, but no matter how much I like the idea of marriage, ( fear it and could never make it go. I'm sure I'd wind up divorced in less than two years and I don't want that to happen for the world." Sally Struthers, 29, finishes another segment as Gloria Stivic on TV's 'All In The Family,' then winds down In her dressing room at KTTV Studio, Los Angeles. She's dating L.A. Dr. William Roden.
