State Forester, Paul Sjoblom, emphasizes that burning permits will be required when doing any open burning. A burning permit can be obtained from the County Fire Warden, County Fire Department, or County Sheriff. Any permit that is issued must comply with the State Health Department Clearing Index. When this index is below 500, no burning is allowed. Above 500, smoke dispersal is sufficient enough to allow burning. Because of the extremely dry weather conditions, it has become necessary to begin the fire season earlier than in past years. As conditions warrant throughout the fire season, additional regulations may have to be implemented. Future announcements will be Days Sale! South Main, Springville with 107, while Dixie was 16 ahead of the Devils with 92 points. According to the article in the WILDERNESS REPORT, published by The Wilderness Society, President Carter thinks the American people have good ideas about all kinds of problems-and he wants to hear about them. Your ideas can be presented to the President by writing : The People's Program, The White House, Washington, D.C. 20050. All letters are read and reviewed by a special committee and legitimate suggestions are brought to President Carter's attention. Upland game correction An error in the opening date of the 1977 upland game seasons appeared in the WILDLIFE REPORT dated April 11, 1977. Sportsmen should make note that the season opening for sage and forest grouse, chukar, Hungarian partridge, cottontail rabbit and snowshoe hare will be Saturday, September 17, 1977. Length of this year's hunting opportunities will be determined by the Wildlife Board at a later date. The street borders Memorial Park on th6 West and Springville Junior High School on the East. Apparently the school board feels that the street presents a safety hazard for junior high school students using the nearby park and tennis courts, as well as the LDS Seminary building located across the street. We would question the advisability of closing the street. We wonder whether the board members took into consideration the fact that should the street be closed, all traffic previously using the street would have to be re-routed on either 800 East Street or 400 East Street, thereby increasing in-creasing considerable traffic around the Grant Elementary School located on the corner of First South and Fourth East Streets. Four East is a busy street anyway and increased traffic in front of an elementary school would seem to us to be much more undesireable than a little traffic in front of a junior high school. Grant School students have been warned repeatedly not to run across 400 East Street, yet every morning, mor-ning, noon and night, countless cars stop across the street to drop off or pick up students. Increased traffic there is something that we just don't want. There are other reasons why we feel the street should not be closed. Reasons such as narrow access streets on the west side of Memorial Park, objections from the fire department, protests from residents in the area, and the fact that Springville City officials denied the request once before. But the most important im-portant reason, we feel, is that junior high school students should be old enough to watch for cars. Elementary school students also should be old enough to watch for cars, but they don't. And more traffic on 400 East and 100 South would endanger their lives all the more. WEST CENTER - performance against Carbon for Springville, allowing no runs in the last three innings of the game. He had plenty of help by his teamates, who rapped out an incredible 23 base hits. Everyone on the team hit safely at least once, while many had three or more hits. Springville is now 1-2 in Region play, and 5-5 overall. Sophomore Cary Hansen is leading the team in hitting, with an average near 600. EDITORIAL PROVO BANK CARD |
