Mr. Brough's students broke the old record by more than 20 feet, almost two-thirds two-thirds longer than the previous record holding slide rule. The project was undertaken, un-dertaken, said Mr. Brough, "so that it might help demonstrate to junior high students that mathematics and science can be as diversified and interesting as it is educational." Not to be satisfied with a mere single world's record, Mr. Brough and Mr. Snelson will extend their record shattering skills and construct a paper chain, 20 miles long! If successful the chain will exceed the existing record by six miles. Now when students get a hunger built up over making the 20-mile paper chain, they're going to slip on a chef's hat and bake the world's largest doughnut; three feet in diameter.
