Show I Superintendent lConwtent$ Mapleton State Representative Ray Nielson reports on activity January 22, 1976 The Springvilb Herald Page Three ByDr. JoeReidhead New Buildings So many questions have come In regarding when we can expect to move into the Middle School-Junior School-Junior High School Complex in Spanish Fork, the Grant School in Springville and the Wilson School in Payson. The biggest concern is the move into the Spanish Fork Complex. The reason the dates have not been announced is because it is very difficult to announce a date and not be able to meet the deadline, running the danger of moving students into the way or workmen trying to complete the details. All parties involved have met and agreed that the Middle School will begin moving on the 28th of January with the first full day of school to be held in the new building on Wednesday, February 4. The Spanish Fork Junior High School will begin moving the 4 th of February with the first full day of school to be February 12. . In the event that some un-forseen un-forseen problem arises, these dates may be set back. However, this is unlikely. The details of the move will be in next week's Spanish Fork Press. The Grant School in Springville: Very little remains to be done , in completing the Grant School and by the time you read this article, at least half of the new building will be occupied. A dedication program will be planned by the staff some time in the spring. The Wilson School: Soil conditions requiring major excavations and recompacted fill set the progress of the Wilson School addition back approximately one month to six weeks, however, we are confident con-fident that it will be ready for occupancy for the beginning of school next fall. Undoubtedly there will be those who disagree with moving into schools during the middle of the year. It has been my experience ex-perience that there is a much smoother transition if we move into a school while school is in session. It is true that students will help in moving small objects - books, teaching materials, their own equipment, etc. The alternative is to have workmen come in and move all equipment, equip-ment, including books and teacher equipment, into the teachers' rooms in a new school during the summer and then two days before school starts having the teachers come in and try to ... make heads or tails of the materials stacked in their room. We still have the same number of days of disruption, confusion and orientation of students while we get settled into a new building. We will be using buses to move the students and small items. District personnel and equipment will move all heavy items and items of equipment. Remember the January 29 .1 SllfiiPpi Ml Brian Lee Castleton, son of Larry and Betty Pace Castleton of Salt Lake City and formerly of Springville celebrated his very first birthday on January 16. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Byron L. Pace and Mr. and Mrs. G. Vernon Castleton, all of Springville. RIGHT BEHIND THE TRUCK... To bring you friendly greetings from your new community, along with useful gifts and information. informa-tion. MARY KNITTLE As your elected State Representative, I would like to report to you on the first week of meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Springville Junior High School., Even though the primary purpose pur-pose is to discuss future building problems in the Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton area, there will be some discussion about the total district needs. Please come if you are interested. the Budget Session of the 41st Legislature. Most of the time was spent in committee work. Appropriations Ap-propriations Sub-Committees' held hearings with the various state agencies in an effort to determine how the almost one billion ($914.5 million) proposed budget will be allocated. Floor time, or time spent on the floor of the House considering bills and resolutions, amounted to but one hour per day. Most of the budget work will be completed during the first two weeks, and uie remaining week will be used to finalize the budget and consider con-sider legislation approved for floor debate. My major concern in the Natural Resources Appropriations Ap-propriations Sub-Committee, of which I am Co-Chairman, is that the Governor has only recommended recom-mended one million for the Water Resources Revolving Construction Fund. The Division of Water Resources requested three million. I hope to get a good portion of this amount restored. I am also working with other Legislators to pass a bill similar to the water construction fund, for range land rehabilitation. This legislation is supported by the Utah State Department of Agriculture and agricultural interests throughout the State. I will not support any increases in-creases in our sales tax, property tax, or income tax. In the area of reducing taxes, I am co-sponsor of a bill to remove the Sales Tax from prescription drugs. Please contact me at the House of Representatives if I can be of assistance.
