West Jordan, UT 84084 Boys soccer competes at Utah Summer Games The Vernal area sent five boys' soccer teams to compete in the age divisions of U19, U16, U14, U12, and U10 at the Utah Summer Sum-mer Games in Cedar City. The teams from Vernal are called VC United. Though several teams went into the bronze medal matches, Vernal's boys were unable to come away with any medals. . In the U19 division VC United played their first game against Tooele Soccer. Tooele was able to come out on top in this game by a score of 1-0. Next VC United would go on to play the Cedar Reds. Vernal's team was victorious winningthe game 2-1. In their third game VC United played Riverton, but the competition competi-tion was too much as Vernal lost by a score of 3-0. Despite the loss, VC United advanced to the bronze medal game, with a chance for payback against Tooele Soccer. But Tooele again came out on top, this time with a final score of 2-0. In the U16 division the VC United team had their first game against a team called the Sting. The Sting stung the VC United by handing them a 6-0 loss in their first game. VC United then played the Avalanche, who piled it on VC United, handing them a 2-0 loss. The U16 VC United team played their best game in their last outing against the Red Hawks. VC United fought hard but came out with a 4-3 loss. The U14 team for VC United played the Cache Valley Force in their first game. The Force handed them a 3-2 loss. Then VC United went on to play the Cedar City Rush. VC United avoided the Rush by beating them 4-1. VC United then played team USA Norrs, but lost 1-0. But it wasn't over as the U14 team from Vernal headed to the bronze medal game. They, like the U19 team would have a chance at this stage to revenge one of their losses. They were set to face the Cache Valley Force who had handed them a 3-2 loss in their first game of the tournament. In the bronze medal game though it was once again the Cache Valley Force who came out on top, this time by a score of 4-1. In the U12 age grouping, VC United, played Jheir first game against the Dixie Fire 96. The Fire burned them with an opening open-ing 3-2 loss. VC United took it out on their next opponent, the team called Strikers TS. VC United got a shutout victory by the score of 3-0. VC United then played the Cedar Mustangs. They once again came out of the game with a shutout victory, this time by the score of 4-0. VC United advanced to play a team called The Revolution 96. When time had run out, the game stood at a standstill. It was tied 3-3. So they went to a shootout, where The Revolution 96 managed to win the game. Still, the work put in by VC United in the U12 division was enough to get them into the bronze medal game and a shot at revenge on a team that handed them one of their losses.
