But among the more modern unsolved questions is what happens hap-pens to several highly productive summer fisheries once the ice forms. For years biologists and ice anglers have wondered why they don't catch kokanee through the ice at Flaming Gorge or bluegill in Red Fleet and Steinaker. Recently a new mystery has appeared: Where are the yellow perch in Starvation Reservoir? : In all cases, the fish in question ques-tion are caught all summer long and in some fairly consistent areas, but when anglers return to those areas after the ice forms, the fish are gone. To help solve one of these mysteries, the state Division of Wildlife Resources has decided to try something new: the Starvation Starva-tion Perch Search. "The plan is to put as many anglers as possible on the reservoir res-ervoir in the hopes of finding 4 , ' - t . v .-ft .-ft 1 v i V It v. The Utes were unable un-able to get one past the opposing team's goalie in their final game of the season. where these perch have moved," said DWR Outreach Manager Ron Stewart. "To do this (we) need the help of anglers - a lot of anglers." Stewart said anyone with the desire to step out on the ice and wet a line can join the Starvation Perch Search on Thursday. Ev eryone is invited, no matter the skill level. DWR would especially like to see those with powered ice augers, portable fish finders and underwater cameras, as the equipment will make finding the fish much more efficient. An informal staging area will be set up at the park's boat ramp for anglers to get assignment areas and to report what was found. Additional information, including maps, will be available avail-able today, Jan. 29, through the Northeast Region Office at 152 East 100 North in Vernal. WHAT'S "AFOOT" IN YOUR COMMUNITY? ( !
