Show u Girls drop game against Bulldogs By Casey Christensen Express Writer Uintah's girls' basketball team lost a home game to the Judge Memorial Bulldogs 55-31. 55-31. The performance was better than the two teams' first meeting when Uintah lost 67-29. Head Coach Shanon Johnson said he is pleased with the progress the girls are making. "We're progressing, but if we are going to get into state we need to figure out how to be competitive with the better teams because everyone in the tournament is good," he said. Uintah seemed to be on the right track after the first quarter with both teams tied at 14, but two flat quarters were more than they could overcome. Uintah only scored 12 points in the second and third. , "In the second quarter we just lost a little focus on getting to their shooters quickly," said Johnson. "That may have been my fault because I had put so much emphasis on shutting down their two main offensive threats that we may have underestimated underesti-mated the rest of the team." Uintah succeeded in shutting down their leading scorer, who only had nine, but other members mem-bers of the team scored for the Bulldogs. ) n Charles Denny gets the rebound and prepares to put a shot back the Judge Memorial Bulldogs. Denny was a big part of helping scorer's effect. V v Cylor Morgan takes a shoot, he had eight points in the losing contest. Head Coach Scott Mansfield said his points were key. The third quarter "was about the only time this whole year when I may have questioned our hustle and desire a little bit," added Johnson. "I just think Judge understood under-stood more of what was on the line than we did and that was a home playoff game, they really stepped it up in the third." Although the low-point totals in the second and third hurt Uintah, Uin-tah, Johnson feels the game was really lost because of defensive performances. "We know on a good night we may end up in the 40s some place," he said. "That hasn't changed nor will it probably change this year. There is a lot of time and work involved to become a shooter or a scorer. I think some of our girls are headed in that direction, but we will probably run out of time before it happens this year. We just have to figure out some way to hold the other team down that gives us a chance of winning." Uintah's own scoring was led by Lesha Labrum and Makenzy Simper with five each. In their previous meeting Judge beat Uintah 66-52, behind a strong 27-point performance by Noel Hollingsworth. Uintah was able to hold him to 18 in this game. "I thought there were a couple of reasons Hollingsworth didn't dominate the same way he did earlier," explained Mansfield. "Dax Upton played pretty tough against Hollingsworth and we had some good help from Josh C urtis and Charles Denny."
