Show H C2 Wednesday, April 18, Brandon Beech stretches to Uintah earns win agaiiist Bem The Uintah Utes lost three in arow, dating back to April 5, before defeating Ben Lomond 8-5 on Saturday. Two of the three losses came within the past week, one on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday. All three demonstrated to some dismal facts about this year's Utes. First all three were large losses, (Wastach 10-0, Judge Memorial 9-0, and Juan Diego 12-l)showingUintahstruggles at the plate when they face tough teams. Second, with only the Wastach game (only two errors) as an exception, the Utes struggle to have any consistency on the defensive side, resulting in 5 errors in the Juan Diego game and 4 in the Judge game. Head Coach Brent Labrum commented, "We have been in a team slump both with the bats and defensively." Labium's preseason fear of a young pitching staff has not proven to be the obstacle it was foreseen to be. Instead, the Utes have far more dangerous problems. The Judge game demonstrated the problem well. Landon Lucero, who is credited with the loss, pitched Landon Lucero scoops up the bunt, then makes the throw to first for play on the mound, the Utes lost 9-0. Fishing Good fishing for trout and had good reports for bass and even some bluegills from Pelican Peli-can just prior to cold snap CALDER CROUSE RESERVOIRS RES-ERVOIRS Anglers report good fishing. Roads accessible acces-sible but watch the storms, as they will make it muddy. The new "trophy " regulation for Calder began January 1, 2007. Please read proclamation for details on regulations FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR RES-ERVOIR Access Conditions: Launching boats is possible on all ramps. Lake Trout Fishing: Some success reported for lake trout in the Mustang, Jarvies, Antelope Ante-lope and Linwood areas. Fish are in traditional areas on underwater un-derwater humps and points. Fishing for smaller lake trout north of Big Bend should be good now until end of May. Rainbow Fishing: Good to excellent fishing for rainbows on most of the reservoir. Most areas where current is enter-ing enter-ing reservoir attract rainbows in early spring. Also look for 2007 pick up the ground, then burns the a good game according to Labrum. Still, the Utes lost because of four errors, but more than just errors, these errors allowed Judge to score points. Labrum added, "We had some defensive erros that cost us." Twice, an errant throw by the catcher scored runs. Not to mention the players those two errors allowed Judge to put into scoring position. Sealing, the fate, or adding to the 9-0 loss, was the fact that Uintah could not catch up to Judge's pitchers. Labrum said, "Judge has two of the best pitchers in 3A and we just couldn't get any offense going." For most of the game, Uintah stood at the plate and watched the ball go by, completely frozen. The Juan Diego game followed the mold of the Judge game, with Gary Hacking receiving the loss. Labrum's comment was identical to the his one about the Judge game, "As a team we really struggled hitting and we had some costly errors on the bases and defensively." And Labrum is right, Juan Diego's Caleb Olson struck out eight of Uintah's batters. Uintah Report large rainbows near boat ramps as mature fish return to where they were stocked in an attempt to spawn. Burbot Fishing: Try fishing with jigs late in the afternoon or early morning on points coming into reservoir. These fish move deep after winter so adjust your location accordingly. ac-cordingly. Anglers recently reported burbot being caught off Antelope Flat in 100 plus feet of water. These fish must be harvested if caught in Utah to help control their population popula-tion as they were illegally introduced to the upper Green River drainage and could have a major impact on other fish species. Labrum said, "We finally hit the ball after scoring only one run in the previous three games. Just the out. Despite Lucero's solid have occurred to the trout fishery during this winter's double peaking flow regime. Due to low snow pack conditions, condi-tions, approximately 50 of normal in the Green River drainage, flows should remain at 800 cfs until spring high flows for threatened and endangered en-dangered fish occur sometime in May or June depending on water conditions. Summer conditions should also be low. Visit the Bureau of Reclamation Reclama-tion website www.uc.usbr.gov for the latest information on flows. ' Express f MIL third then hustles down the base about everyone recorded hits in the game." Brandon Beech recorded the win. The defensive inconsistency almost allowed Ben Lomond to score 4 runs; however, Labrum was more optimistic stating, "We played much better defense." Labrum continued, "Hopefully after beating Ben Lomond Saturday we can get back on track for our region games this week." With only five games left in the season Uintah cannot afford to lose any more games. Labrum and the Utes will be tested against Union. Uintah lost earlier this year to Union 11-8, but a small ray of hope glistened when Union lost to Park City 10-7. Park City is the team Uintah defeated 7-6, before beginning their three game losing streak. Hopefully Labrum is right, hopefully the slump is over. The game begins at 3 p.m. at the high school on Friday, April 20.
