Tipton explains, "This method places an wild horse in a square pen with a trainer using a 12-foot pole to handle the horse." The pole is an extension ex-tension of the trainer's arm, which allows the handler to maintain touch with the horse from a safe distance. At the same time Tipton says that "the corners of the square pen relieve stress for the horse as it becomes more comfortable with the handler's touch." Tipton is also a member of EO. Box 703 Bertram, TX 78605 at 512-355-3225 and will participating in the Extreme Mustang Challenge later this spring. Tipton will be one of 100 trainers who receive a wild horse from the BLM Nevada managed herd with 90 days to gentle and train the horse. This is the first year of this challenge which will offer a prize of $25,000 to the winner of the competition. . "Horses in the competition competi-tion will start out completely unhandled," he said. "At the end of 3 months, competitors will be judged on the horse's conditioning, groundwork and ability to carry a. rider over obstacles" found on or off the trail. This is a triple-judged competition with individual OPTIMUM MORTGAGE, L.L.C. : ? ' AO- 1 ADAMS ACCUSED County fire By Geoff Liesik Duchesne County Fire and Emergency Management Director Georg Adams was placed on unpaid administrative administra-tive leave Thursday after a female county employee was granted a civil stalking injunction injunc-tion against him. The 50-year-old woman has accused Adams of becoming "increasingly aggressive" in his efforts to get her to talk to him and listen to what he has to say. To support her allegations, the woman provided pro-vided the court with 32 pages of information in her request for the injunction. Included in the packet are two letters the woman said she received from Adams, two e-mails from Adams, and a chronological accounting ac-counting of alleged instances of harassment. "I told him that his behavior behav-ior was frightening me,'' the woman wrote of a conversation conversa-tion she had with Adams after receiving one of the letters in January. Court records show that Thursday's suspension is the third time Adams has been disciplined by the county for charges that he harassed the woman seeking the injunction. injunc-tion. In early February, Adams was verbally ordered by the Duchesne County Commission not to have any contact with the woman, accordingtodocu--meiits. filed last wfeefc- That wasfollowed by-a diiscipliriary OF HARASSMENT boss on unpaid leave letter from the commission on Feb. 28, outlining six restrictions restric-tions on Adams' conduct, including a prohibition on contacting the woman directly or through a third party. A second disciplinary letter filed with the court shows that Adams violated the conditions of the first letter on March 21 when he approached the woman at work and told her he had "no hard feelings" toward her. Adams was subsequently suspended on March 26 for two weeks without pay. During the suspension, Adams allegedly made contact with the woman again, pulling up alongside her parked car on Highway 40 in Duchesne and "glaring" at her for about 10 seconds. That incident prompted the woman to go the Duchesne County Sheriffs Office Of-fice on April 10, one day after Adams was reinstated. "I felt that Georg was trying try-ing to intimidate me," the woman wrote in her request for the stalking injunction. "Georg's behavior has caused me extreme emotional stress and I now fear for my personal safety." Duchesne County Commissioner Com-missioner Rod Harrison was told of the stalking injunction injunc-tion Thursday morning by two sheriffs deputies sent to serve Adams with the court order. Harrison had not seen the court filing, arid would not . " , " . ' r . ' . ," comment on the allegations against Adams or his future . employment status. "The commission will do everything to the letter of the law," Harrison said. "We'll make sure that both employees' employ-ees' rights are looked after." Harrison said Adams, a county employee for 27 years, was placed on leave because the stalking injunction bars him from entering the county administration buildingwhere his office is located. Adams, who is married, would not comment on the allegations against him or his suspension when he was contacted at home Thursday afternoon. However, in a Feb. 29 letter to Harrison that is attributed to Adams, and contained in the request for the stalkinginjunction, Adams maintains that he had a "very friendly relationship" with the woman that had existed for some time without protest. "An incident that angered her turned the tables on me, and suddenly I am a threat," Adams wrote, adding later, "I have never stalked her, nor have I mistreated her or abused her in any way whatever what-ever sic, not physically or verbally." . A hearing on the stalking injunction was set for Monday, April 16, but has been rescheduled resched-uled for May 14 at the request 'of Adams' attorney.
