The Utah Division of Consumer Con-sumer Protection announced that citizens need to be aware of a new email bank scam that is using legitimate information informa-tion taken from First National Bank, North Carolina. The email states that First National Bank is going through security enhancements enhance-ments for their online banking and informs the recipient their account has discrepancies which need to be changed. The email then directs the computer user to click on a link and enter their account number and related personal financial information. This scam also threatens the recipient recipi-ent that if they fail to comply with First National Bank's request, their account will be suspended. Giani, executive ex-ecutive director of the Utah Department of Commerce, "First National Bank has confirmed to us that is email is fake and no one should click on the link or enter personal financial information online." . AARP Driver Safety Program scheduled for May 2 and 3 Last year featured the "Roaring 20s" and participants enjoyed bidding for silent auction items. The theme for the 2007 Night on the Town will be the styles of the 50s. 4th Annual "Night on the Town" to be held Saturday Uintah Basin Christian Academy (UBCA) is holdingits fourth "Night on the Town," with the 50s Styles as the focus for the gala event, dinner and auction. Doors will open on Saturday at Western Park at 5 p.m., and Silent Auction bidding bid-ding will continue until 6:45. Dinner and entertainment will start at 6:45 and continue until 7:30 p.m. when the Live Auction will begin. Live Auction will include many quality items, and special bidding will feature a trip for two to Branson, Mo. The final live auction items are cruises to Alaska and British Columbia. Catalogs may be reserved by calling the UBCA office at 789-9332, and may be picked up at the door the evening of April 21. The evening is made possible by the generosity of many local businesses and individuals who donated items, services and cash. Cost for the evening, which includes admission to the event, a catalog of auction items, bid number and dinner for two is $50. Singles are $25. All proceeds from the evening will be added to the building fund for the new Uintah Basin Christian Academy facility being planned. An AARP Driver Safety Class will be held May 2 and 3 at the Golden Age Center. The class begins at 1:00. Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday the session is from 8:30 am. to 12:30 p.m., and attendance is required for both days. Class size is limited; register now by calling 435-789-2160 or 790-7694. Instructor Marie Nye has been a volunteer with the AARP Driver Safety Program for over five years. She began as an instructor, and then added the responsibility of Telephone Coordinator. After being the Assistant State Coordinator for Weber and Morgan counties she is Associate State Coordinator, responsible for four outlying sections of the state. She addressed the Chamber at luncheon on Tuesday. Nye reminds drivers of the three-second rule for following another car, and adds ten other good three-second rules to observe for safe driving: SeatBelts:Take3seconds to secure your seat belt before starting the car. Backing: Before backing, take 3 seconds to check behind your car to be sure no child is behind you. Stop Sign: When you pause at a stop sign, wait 3 seconds to check traffic before pulling into the intersection. Second car when light turns green: Give the car ahead at least 3 seconds to pull out before sounding your horn! . Lane Changes: When crossing from lane A to lane C on a freeway, drive at least 3 seconds in lane B before continuing on to lane C. Railroad Crossing: Stop, look and listen for three seconds before moving on. Right Turn on Red Light: Give yourself 3 seconds of STOP before making the turn. Turn-Indicator: Use for at least 3 seconds before making a lane change or turning a corner. Rude Drivers: When another driver does something to irritate you, give yourself 3 seconds, then 3 seconds again and again until you can FIDO (Forget it, drive on). There is not a test at the AARP Safe Driving Class but there answers to today's driving challenges, and opportunity to assess one's own abilities with a Personal Driving Capability Index. One graduate of the program said, "I have driven over three million miles as a commercial driver. Even with that record behind me, I have to keep ah open mind and learn new things. AARP's Driver safety Program taught me a lot about normal age-related changes that I didn't realize. I know I'm a better driver for it."
