Show Obituaries con't. Martha Long Martha (Betty) Long, 79, of Sunset, passed away peacefully at her home on Oct. 19, 2006. She was born Dec. 19, 1926 to Stanley Bristol and Violet Bird in Bluebell, Utah. She was married mar-ried to Alfred G. Long on Oct. 7, 1944; he preceded her in death by 11 years. She is survived by her children, chil-dren, Eugene, Monte, Stanley, Allan and Carolyn; ten grandchildren grand-children (a grandchild, Alex, who lived with her); 10 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers and sisters, sis-ters, Gene, Dean and Lewis of Vernal, Julia of Roosevelt and Louise of Layton. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert. She was loved deeply by all who held her close to their hearts and will be greatly missed. Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Bluebell LDS Ward Marial Wixom Nash Marial Wixom Nash was born on April 9, 1920, in Georgetown, Idaho, to Hedvig Hansen Wixom. Her father, Joseph LeRoy Wixom, died in the influenza pandemic a few months before her birth. She was raised by her widow mother moth-er in Bountiful, Utah where she graduated from Davis High in 1938. During WWII she worked at Western Union in Utah and in Oakland, Calif. On Sept. 4, 1946, she married mar-ried Ray E. Nash in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She worked to support the family as Ray finished his degrees at the University of Utah. In 1949 they moved to Vernal where she spent the next 55 plus years raising their family on the family fam-ily farm and working with and serving the people around her. Through her actions and words she always set an example of what was good and right for her family and for those who frequently visited in her home. Marial was active in the LDS church throughout her life, faithfully serving in numerous acres of land behind USU about ten years ago. Parks and Recreation Recre-ation used a portion of this land for soccer fields, and the rest remains unused. Of this unused land, the city and county recently recent-ly agreed to add about 1.5 acres to the soccer field complex for bathroom facilities and parking. park-ing. Or visit -our website: www.aarp.org drive tifi , Vernal Evelyn "Pete" Holmes Evelyn "Pete" Holmes passed away Oct 13, 2006 at the Basin Care & Rehab Center in Roosevelt She was born to John Stark and Lucia Jackman on July 16, 1913. She married Nile William Holmes Nov. 13, 1937 in Vernal, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized solem-nized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Pete loved her flowers flow-ers and fruit trees. She worked hard with her husband and family on the ranch. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband and two grandsons. grand-sons. Evelyn is survived by her children, Gary Holmes, Vernal; Marva (Wendell) Mathisen, Myton; Karlee (Phil) Boyles, Vernal; Leora Stewart, Roosevelt; Ernest (Linda) Holmes, Vernal; Dwayne (LeAnn) Holmes, Vernal; Doyle (Tammy) Holmes, Vernal. Pete is also survived by 19 grand- callings. She enjoyed serving as a worker in the Vernal Temple. She is survived by her five sons, Mark (Betta) of Tooele, Utah, Lee (Ann) of Kenai, Alaska, Ray L. (Lori) of Aurora, Colo., Dale (Beth) of Titusville, Fla., and Clyde (Sue Ellen) of Elko, Nev. She dearly loved her 21 grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death, as did her sisters Maude Thompson and Virginia Burchell and brother Russell Wixom. The family expresses its deep love and appreciation to neighbors who, through several sev-eral years of increasing weakness weak-ness and illness, watched over Marial and Ray. No better neighbors exist anywhere. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Naples Ward LDS Meetinghouse, 2313 South 1500 East, Vernal. Friends may call Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Vernal Mortuary, Uintah Basin Christian Academy Acad-emy currently enrolls about 100 students, up from 80 last year. As of now, the school teaches preschool pre-school through eighth grade. Although Al-though many parents would like to see high school grades added, Principal Kay Howard said this would be a major step. Jerry was born April 8, 1957 to Douglas and Sarifra Fresorger Critton. He married Terri Timothy July 8, 1978, they later divorced. He married Elizabeth Marie Brown May 30, 2003. Jerry enjoyed playing darts doing bead work and rock hunting, but he loved spending his time with his children and grandchildren. He was a very hard worker and worked whether he was feeling well or not Jerry was a dedicated father and grandfather grandfa-ther and a true and loyal friend. He loved life and endured through much pain, he endured with hope and courage.
