Flooding Continued from A1 Other riverside activities when there is a danger of flooding. Roberts said that every year two or three children are lost in Utah due to activities close to flooding waterways. All permits for work on Ashley and Dry Fork Creek to prevent flooding were approved this week by the Army Corp of Engineers and the Utah State Department of Water. Water officials have been waiting for the permits so they can continue work on Ashley Creek and Dry Fork Creek. The county has improved the banks at the bridges across Ashley Creek at 2500 West, 1500 West and 500 East. They have been enforced with rip-rap. The county plans on securing the bank at 500 West and at the Dry Fork Settlement this week. The permits will allow the county to improve the banks of Ashley Creek on 1500 North from 1500 West for about 2,640 feet. The work will focus on where the creek went over its banks at the Kiwanis Park. The permit to improve the east bank of Ashley Creek above the Upper Highline Canal diversion has not been approved. "Without doing something soon, we will be in trouble," said Brent Jackson, Upper Highline Canal board of directors. direc-tors. Commissioner Jim Abegglen said he would bring up the issue of repairing the east bank when Water and Army Corp officials are in Vernal Tuesday for a county flood meeting. The county will be coordinating coordi-nating groups to make piles of the debris from the creek so it can be burned. "We have more volunteers than we have sandbags," Abegglen said. Tuesday morning Uintah County GIS specialist Jordan Merrell and pilot Bret Reynold flew Ashley Creek in an ultralight ultra-light to video the creek before the flooding starts. More flights and videos will be made during the flooding and after. Go One Better. Better hot wait rnrr rrn.
