Show Night of celebration for Vernal Pink Ladies celebrated celebrat-ed with an awards dinner last Wednesday night at the 7-11 Cafe. Music and conversation adorned the evening with nearly near-ly 70 people attending. Dinner was served with prime rib, chicken and halibut as entrees with salad, soup and wonderful wonder-ful cheesecake accompanying. Blue Mountain Bluegrass Band played throughout the dinner celebration. Doctors, nurses, department heads and other volunteer organizations orga-nizations attended to celebrate the work of the Pink Ladies. . y . Current Topics club donates to community The Vernal Current Topics club of 35 women has spent a lot of time and effort volunteering volunteer-ing to help the community and those in need. Speakers included new Ashley Valley Medical Center (AVMC) emergency room doctor, Nolan Brooksby who told the ladies a little about himself and displayed dis-played a slide show including introduction of his children and family. He also discussed the reasons rea-sons he has chosen to come to the Vernal area and AVMC and how much he appreciates the welcoming staff and community commu-nity of Vernal Originally from Pleasant Grove, Dr. Brooksby attended Utah State University in Logan then transferred to television on so those residents in the back can see just as well as those in the front. Western Living was also of assistance to the club by selling the big screen to the ladies at cost. On the day of dedication of the television, a Check was also ! presented to Kimberly Civish ! and Wayne Dunbar, of Uintah Care Center, to purchase clothing cloth-ing protectors for residents. "These ladies have been wonderful to us at the Care Center and have helped with many different projects over the years. We really appreciate appreci-ate all they do," said Wayne Dunbar, Uintah Care Center Administrator. Other projects for the Current Topics ladies this year include their annual Rummage Sale coming up on Saturday, March 19. Each year the ladies raise enough money from the rummage sale to make needed donations around the Basin area. His residency was completed com-pleted in Mesa, Ariz. Dr. Brooksby came to the area to visit family members in the Jensen area and decided, along with bis wife, that they did not want to leave the area. Upon talking to Si Hurt, AVMC administrator, he was eventually even-tually hired as part of the ER staff. Dr. Brooksby also stated how important it is for a hospital hospi-tal to have volunteer services and how helpful and wonderful the Pink Ladies have been. Following Dr. Brooksby, Si Hutt was the next speaker. Si Hutt continued on with what Dr. Brooksby said in that he is thankful for the wonderful won-derful job nurses, employees, and volunteers do at AVMC. "Volunteering is a never ending end-ing struggle. It's difficult to find time to help and volunteer with our busy schedules. We highly appreciate all of the volunteers volun-teers at our hospital and want to thank everyone for being so patient with us during our construction con-struction period," said Hutt. He also discussed the importance impor-tance of good customer service. The five speed, six cylinder Supra with new tires and paint was donated to the Current Topics ladies by Gary Showalter to help in their money raising efforts. "It's not the car that matters, it's the sale," said Marianne Showalter. "We just want everyone to know how important this sale is to the Current Topics and to the community." com-munity." "We want to make people in the Basin feel comfortable about coming to AVMC anytime they need to." The open house for the newly reconstructed AVMC is set for March-18. Keni Sue was the final speaker speak-er for the evening with thanks going out to all volunteers and staff that had assisted them throughout the year. Special thanks went to Pauline Smuin for helping the Pink Ladies. "She can get you anywhere donated for drawing to raise money with their newly donated big screen at Vernal's Western Park on Saturday, March 19. Winner is responsible for taxes and licensing. The Current Topics are involved in many projects around the Basin area and have had the support of many in the Basin for years. "We really want to thank the community for all of their support over the years," said Current Topics member Teddy Evans.
