Annual 4-H Eiidi-off next week The annual Uintah County 4-H Kick-Off will be held March 19 at Uintah High School with registration starting at 9:30 a.m. and activities continuing continu-ing until 2 p.m. Activities have been planned around the theme of "4-H...Makes it Happen!" The event offers a wide variety of activities for youth enrolled in third through 12th grades. Parents and club leaders lead-ers are also invited and encouraged encour-aged to attend. As youth arrive, they will be able to view booths presented by currently organized orga-nized clubs and watch a slide presentation highlighting some of Uintah County's projects, activities and events. Following GED testing offered this month Uintah School District will be offering the GED Test March 18 and 19 at the Uintah School District Office, 635 West 200 South. The test will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, March 18 and continue Saturday, March 19. Those interested in taking the test need to fill out an application applica-tion by 5 p.m. Friday. The test administration fee is $55.00 with retakes available for $11 subtest. For questions, contact David John or Elaine Gardiner at the Ashley Valley Education Center, 781-3100 extension 1013. a general session, youth will be able to attend two out of seven workshops featuring further introduction to specific 4-H projects. Workshop topics to be covered are: Show it Off (Jr. livestock), Horses You Love to Ride, Stitchin' and Stylin (clothing), Eat it Up (foods project proj-ect ideas), Arts and Crafts Kids Love, Rev it Up (small engines), and Fitness can be Fun. A pizza lunch will be served at noon, followed by seven "Make-and-Take" workshops of which each participant may pick one to attend. Youth can involve themselves in making a rope or accordion photo album, painting a wood horse or dog, Great Spring fever salad recipe For Dressing: 1 tablespoon Crisco, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 teaspoon sugar, 12 teaspoon salt, 14 teaspoonful white pepper, pep-per, 2 eggs, 4 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 cup whipped cream For Salad: 1 quart chopped apples, 1 pint diced celery, 1 V2 cups blanched and shredded almonds, 23 cup rolled pecan nut meats. Instructions: To prepare this Apple, Celery and Nut Salad Recipe, first for salad: Mix apples, celery and nut meats. For dressing: Melt Crisco, add mustard, sugar, salt, pepper, pep-per, yolks of eggs well beaten, and lemon juice. Cook in double boiler until it thickens, then add whites of eggs stiffly beaten. Chill and add whipped cream just before serving. Youth are encouraged to attend this county wide activity activ-ity hosted by the 4-H Adult Advisory and Teen Councils. Katelyn Hales Hales to serve in Arizona Katelyn Hales, daughter of Jim and Nancy Hales, has been called to serve an 18-month mission mis-sion for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arizona Phoenix Mission. She spoke Feb. 27 in the Ogden University 11th Ward. She will enter the MTC March 9. Scouting is 75 Pack 1037, charactered by the BPOE Elks in Vernal, celebrated celebrat-ed at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet held on Feb. 23. One of the projects that Pack 1037 did was for each Scout and Leader to make a chain with 75 links, writing a good deed completed on each link, and then display it around the room. Another project was a food drive with the goal of 75 items donated, one item for each year of Cub Scouting in America. The 6-month-old calico on the left is a friendly female that likes to cuddle and purr. The young adult full-male on the right is totally blind but gets around well. He is another cuddly critter. Both are waiting for good homes with loving families. The animal shelter has a 30-day, no fee fostering program which will help adopting families determine if they wish to keep the pet permanently.
