I U . II ' J "v. 2tk xJf 53 A sea of white daisies greet visitors visi-tors to the Richins home. Country garden puts on annual display While many Vernal homeowners have increased their landscaping efforts to join civic interests preparing pre-paring forjudging in the upcoming America in Bloom contest August 1 and 2, one Vernal gardener has her usual lush gardens producing an eagerly anticipated annual show of blossoms. William and Maurine Richins have spent decades planting and maintaining their comfortable country yard overlooking a wide vista of the southern part of Ashley Valley. Their home equally shares views of farms, grazing horses and cows and Split Mountain to the east. Without depending upon exotic blossoms for the natural beauty of their yards, the couple's grounds are ablaze with daisies, daylillies, roses and other long established plants. A silvered old tree stump serves as a gigantic vase for Maurine's brilliant pink petuniasas they cascade cas-cade to the lawn below. When in season, her large white daisies bank her streetside entrance. In a side yard, Maurine's overflowing over-flowing daylillies nestle beside a tractor tire being used as the container con-tainer for a lush tomato plant. Maurine has an antique wheelbarrow wheel-barrow beneath her home's picture window-but the profusion of blossoms blos-soms billowing from the old garden gar-den tool has it completely covered. Her giant hydrangea bush in the back yard is frequented by local floral shops and friends desiring some of its plate-sized blossoms. Maurine says her children and grandchildren now help keep up the yard for the retired couple. Every day traffic can be seen to slow at the Richins home, as those who pass pause to "enjoy Maurine's flowers." . . M. - . .. - : |
