Organizer Kim Christiansen of Vernal said initially there are about 14 members who lived from Fruitland to Rangely, Colo. "We are so small, that instead of being a chapter, I suggested be be call a verse," Christiansen said. Most members of the Temple Riders Association have a common love for motorcycles and they strive to maintain the standards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. LDS membership is not required to belong to the group, but LDS standards must be maintained on all activities. The Uintah Basin group plans to meet monthly, usually involving a motorcycle trip somewhere. They will likely plan one or two long trips as a club a year. Usually these trip will be a visit to one of the over 125 LDS temples worldwide. world-wide. Christiansen said two years ago, he and his wife, Emily, went on a 5,000 mile trip to New York. They visited three temples along the way. About half of the rides are geared mostly toward attending a temple and the other half are scenic rides, but often include a temple stop somewhere along the way. The group rides a variety of different dif-ferent bikes, Gold Wings, Harleys and others. With the TRA, the important thing is more the lifestyle than the bike. No matter what you ride, you will probably give and take some friendly ribbing rib-bing because of it. Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are sacred structures in which eternal questions are answered. Each is dedicated as a house of the Lord, a place of holiness and peace shut apart from the world. Persons interested in joining the Uintah Basin Chapter of TRA can contact Christiansen at 789-4783. Expect one way traffic due to shoulder work The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists of roadwork on U.S. Highway 191 north of Vernal: March 18 and 22 - 25 U.S. 191 will be restricted to one lane from milepost 212 to 217 for shoulder work. Work crews will be in the area between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Flaggers, signs and other traffic control devices will be placed to help motorists through the construction con-struction zone. Motorists should expect slight travel delays. UDOT encourages motorists to use caution and travel at the posted speed limits while driving through work zones. Schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather, weath-er, equipment problems or emergency emer-gency situations. .11 |
