As expected, Team Uintah took a relatively easy 4-1 decision. "Carbon is in a rebuilding mode this year and we had already beaten them 5-0 last week," Head Coach Eric Pye stated, "so we knew going in what to expect." The team moved players around to give them more experience with only the 2nd doubles team of Josh Romney and Dylon Feltch playing their normal positions. Lady Utes Com. from pg. 19 Mansfield then sacrificed Staley in with Amorette going to third. Dixie Wiseman stepped to the plate and smacked a game winning double to score Johnson and win the game. The victory moved the Lady Utes to . 2-0 in region going into the Union game yesterday. "Again the kids showed no emotion emo-tion prior to or during the game," Coach Yama stated. "I think the players think they can play just well enough to win, but the teams in our region are too balanced and close to play with that attitude. The team learned their lesson the hard way as the Lady Cougars spanked Uintah 8-5 on their home field. "They are a good team," Yama said. "Bink has done a good job getting them ready and they played very well. But at the same lime, we made way too many errors and mental mistakes. When you are in a close game, the team that usually usual-ly commits the least errors is going to win." TYPICAL OF their play for most of the game, the Lady Ute fastpitch team made the critical plays when they had to. Shortstop Misty Bright, Bold Colors That Last! Team Uintah faces a busy schedule as they host Union Wednesday, travel to Union Thursday and then will play in the Logan Invitational Friday and Saturday. "This is a big tournament for us," Pye said. "We have really been pointing towards the Logan tournament tourna-ment since they won the Ogden Invitational when we were short handed. We feel like we have to make a statement up there. They are one of the teams that will be tough at state so it is important to be competitive com-petitive on their courts." r i i committed a flagrant tag to intentionally inten-tionally hurt a Union player," Yama explained, "but he was totally out of position and missed the call. "The region decided to hold region re-gion meets at each school as opposed op-posed to individual dual meets this year," Head Coach Curg Belcher stated, "to cut down on costs and missed school." Every school from Region VII was present other than Lchi, who docs not field a full team. The meet took place under blustery blus-tery conditions, which put added pressure on the athletes in certain events such as the distance events, pole vault, high jump and javelin. Despite the windy challenge, times, distances and heights were very competitive on a state level, especially espe-cially this early in the season. Jarcd Stevenson was the iron man for the boys, taking first in the 100, 200, 400 and running a leg in the relays re-lays as the Utes took first place with 106 points. Emery was a close 2nd with 99 followed by Carbon with 71, Union with 41 and Wasatch with 27. For the girls, Brooke Richens had a similar day, winning the 200, placing plac-ing 2nd in the 400 and helping out in the relays as the girls finished 3rd with 65 12 points. Emery finished 1st with 128 points followed by Carbon in 2nd with 77 12, Uintah 3rd, Wasatch 4 th with 45 and Union with 10. When asked how he felt about the teams performance, Coach Belcher responded, "All in all, they have done very well. Our sprint and distance dis-tance people have worked hard and their improving times reflect that. The field events have lagged behind and I am a little concerned, but they have been hurt more by the weather so I look for them to come around as the season progresses.
