The event of the 12 men being re-baptized (Acts 19:1-7) illustrates that one must be scripturally taught to be LEAD SINGER of Petra, and former Vernal resident, John Schlitt, will perform in concert the end of April. John Schlitt to appear in concert John Schlitt, lead singer of the contemporary Christian group, Petra, will be singing in the Vernal Junior High auditorium on Friday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. All ages are encouraged to attend as the music will appeal to the teens and younger set as well as some more mellow songs for the older generation. The local band, King's Honour, will open up the exciting event Schlitt was a member Qf the group called Headeast in the late 1970s when that group rose to success. In 1980, Headeast disbanded leaving Schlitt in the wake of alcoholism and drug addiction. He became a Christian and Started his recovery. In 1985, he joined the group Petraf and now sings a new song; one that tells of God's love and restoration. Schlitt is a former resident of v Vernal. He lived here ten years ago working as an engineer on the White River Shale project This concert will be a kind of "homecoming" "home-coming" for Schlitt as he shares with old Mends and new, that God is indeed the God of a second chance. Tickets are on sale at four locations: loca-tions: Dave Jolley Chevrolet, Radio Shack, Bittercreek Books and Music Music. They are $7.50 per person if bought at any of the locations loca-tions before the concert or $8.50 at the door. Paul taught them the difference between John's baptism and the baptism of the New Covenant. Then they were baptized in the name of the Lord. John's baptism carried no promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit and did not put people into the body of Christ; the baptism of the New Covenant does both (Acts 2:38; 1 Cor 12:13). John taught people to believe in Christ who would come after him; the baptism of the New Covenant looks back to Christ as having already come. John was sent to the Jews only; the new covenant is addressed to all nations (Matt 28:19; Mark 16:15). Due to the teaching of modern preachers who have not learned the whole truth on baptism, many people in our time have submitted to some kind of baptism, but they have not yet obeyed God. Some have been baptized to get into a denomination rather than into Christ (Gal 3:27) Others have been baptized thinking they were already saved, whereas, according to the Bible, baptism is an essential step in one's salvation (Mark 16:16; 1 Pet 3:21), There is but "one baptism" now in effect (Eph 4:5). This baptism is an immersion in water to wash away sins (Acts 22:16; 10:47-48). No other baptism will bring one into union with the blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed in His death (Rom 6:34), to cleanse us from sin (Rev 1:5). If one learns that he has not submitted to the "one baptism" of the New Covenant, he should do like the men at Ephesus be baptized in the name of the Lord Please, search the Scriptures and see whether these things are so (Acts 17:11).
