Show 26 Vernal Express Advertiser Wednesday, January 4, 1984 Utfes, Bruons f o clash Friday Uintah High School and Mountain View will battle each other Friday in the region opener for the Vernal cagers at Uintah High School. The Bruins placed second last year at the 3-A state tournament. Provo captured first place honors. The varsity game begins at 7:30 p.m. Two starters return to the Mountain View team in Dan Hall, C'4" forward and Matt Anderson, 6'2" guard. Jerry Jeffs, 6'9", should be a starter at the center position. Seniors on the Mountain Moun-tain View team besides Anderson and Hall are Dave Talbot, 6'3" guard; Jed Hone, 6'2" center; Robert Beus, 6'3" forward and Hatch, 6'5" center. Mountain Moun-tain View has defeated Payson and Weber and has lost games to Springville and Jordan. The Utes will host Orem, Jan. 11 and will battle Provo on the road, Jan. 18. Uintah will host Timpview, Jan. 20. The Uintah Utes have a mark of 2 wins and 5 losses. Uintah has defeated Rangely and Palisade and has dropped drop-ped games to Grand Junction, Cottonwood, Cotton-wood, Grand Junction Central, East Carbon and Uintah's alumni team. "Provo should be rated as the number one team in the state and Jordan Jor-dan will be right up there," stated Uintah Uin-tah High School head basketball coach Gary Weight. "Provo has David Houtz, 6'6" center, back this year and Alan Frampton, 6'2" guard, is a varsity var-sity starter as a sophomore. The other guard starter is Sean Esplin, 511". The Utes will take on Provo in an away game, Jan. 24. The Uintah Ute girls' varsity basketball basket-ball team owns a 0-7 record. They have been defeated by Grand Junction, Carbon, Car-bon, Craig, Spanish Fork, Springville and Union, twice. Uintah's games with Union were close encounters and the Utes owned leads at times in the game with the Roosevelt cagers.
