Last year the Uintah Utes crushed Provo, 69-0. Uintah Utes, who have taken part in many varisty meets this season are: Shelton Humphries, 98; Ryan Sid-doway, Sid-doway, 105; Jerry Tingey and Nick Snyder, 112; Craig Funk, 119; Joe Newell, 126; Mike Smith, 132; George Cook, 138; Kary McNeill, 145; Gary Murray, 155; Chad Bedell, 187; Mike Slaugh, 185 and Matt Sunkees, heavyweight. Siddoway pinned Provo's Randy Hinckley in the second round in a 98 pound match last year. Siddoway is at 105 pounds this year for the Utes. Mark Augustus, 105, pinned Alister Byars and Brent Morrill, 112, pinned Aaron Begay. Funk, 119, pinned Robert Fadley and Funk is a starter this year for the Utes once again at 119 pounds. Wilbert Woody, 126, pinned Troy Wright last year and David Gentry pinned Shawn Morgan at 132 pounds. Torr McCurdy, 138, dropped John Tait due to a fall and Darrin Bailey, 145, downed Todd Carter, 7-2. Bucky Tingey, 155, pinned James Peterson and Pat Jenkins, 167, pinned Randy Tom. Jody Young, 185, pinned Marty Wright and Shawn O'Brien, heavyweight, pinned Scott Larsen in 41 seconds. When asked to comment on Provo High School's wrestling team, Uintah head wrestling coach Ed Johnson remarked, "Provo is in a rebuilding year." Junior varsity matches are set for 6 p.m. and the varsity contests will start at 7 p.m. The Uintah Utes will take on Brighton High School in Salt Lake City Ci-ty Tuesday, Jan. 10. Brighton is the defending 4-A state tournament champ and Uintah won the 1983 3-A state title. Both teams have been powers on the high school wrestling scene for many years. Uintah owns 15 state championship crowns. Uintah will host Skyline; Friday, Jan. 13 and Craig, Saturday, Jan. 14. Skyline is coached by former Uintah and Cyprus wrestling coach Dennis Preece. Preece coached the Uintah Utes to nine state titles, 1968-1973, 1975-1977.
