" Vs-" V It had been a few years since manyj of the competitors had donned their wrestling gear, but they proved that; they weren't rusty in the sport of wrestling as they treated the fans to many "ohs" and "ahs" in the first an-, nual Alumni Meet in Vernal at Uintah High School, Wednesday, Dec. 28. . Eugene Woody, 135 pounds, grabb-ed grabb-ed a 10-0 lead in the first round on three near falls and a takedown and then ended the match when he pinned Mark Augustus, with 1:26 left in the second round. Ronnie Horrocks owned leads after the first two rounds in a 130 pound match with Keith Campbell, but Campbell rallied in the final round to tie up the match at 6-6. Horrocks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first round on two takedowns and Campbell netted a neutral. Both tusslers scored reversals in the second round and Horrocks Hor-rocks owned a 6-3 lead. Campbell pocketed a neutral and takedown to knot up the match at 6-6. Campbell . scored his match tying takedown with 1:04 left in the contest. Frankie Jaramillo, 135 pounds, grabbed a 2-1 lead in the first round when he dropped Josh Reynolds for a Photo by Aldon Rathele heavyweight for the Uintah Utes in 1969, pinned Daley in the third round of a 200 pound match. Henry went the three round takedown. Reynolds scored neutrals in the first and second round and then netted a 5-2 win when he turned Jaramillo over for a three-point near fall. David Gentry was behind by one point going into the final round of a match with Scott Murray, but he scored a reversal with one minute left in the contest to defeat Murray by the score of 6-5. Murray dropped Gentry for a takedown and a 2-0 lead, but a reversal and two-point near fall gave Gentry a first round lead of 4-2. However, Murray snared a one point lead of 5-4 on a neutral and takedown in the second round. Allan Holmes, 145, scored all of his points in the first round on a takedown and beat Tim Houle, 2-0. Holmes decked deck-ed Houle in the first round for two points and prevented Houle from netting any points in the match. Kent Boren pocketed a 158 pound win when he pinned Jim Quinn with 1:14 left in the second round. Boren grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and three-point near fall. Matt Hacking ended his match with D. J. Chivers in the first round when he pinned Chivers with 12 seconds to go distance and Henrywon 8-2. in the round. Raymond Perry and Brad Funk competed in a scoreless first round and then Perry pocketed a neutral in the second round for a 1-0 lead in a 150 pound match. Funk foiled Perry's victory vic-tory plans when he scored three points in the final round for a 3-1 win. Funk netted a neutral with 1: 12 left to tie up the match at 1-1 and scored a takedown with 39 seconds left for a two point win. Darrin Bailey garnered a victory in a 155 pound match when he beat Don "Duck" Johnson, 9-2. Bailey decked Johnson in the first round for a takedown and added a three-point near fall for a 5-0 lead. Johnson survived surviv-ed the near fall, Gut Bailey scored four pionts in the second round on a reversal rever-sal and two-point near fall for a 9-0 lead. Johnson scored a reversal in the third round. Burnell Slaugh, a 1967 Uintah graduate, defeated Creg Wilkins, a 1971 Uintah graduate, on a pin in a 160 pound match. Wilkins grabbed a 2 -0 lead in the first round on a takedown and Slaugh produced three points in the second round on a neutral and takedown for a 3-2 lead. Slaugh ended the match when he pinned Wilkins with 40 seconds left in the third round. Dale Delano won a 160 pound encounter en-counter on a 10-3 decision win over Jamie Evans. Delano scored five points for a 5-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and three-point near fall. Evans scored a reversal in the second se-cond round, but Delano added a reversal rever-sal and neutral for an 8-2 lead. Evans pocketed a neutral in the third round, but Delano scored a two-point near fall for a 10-3 win. Former teammates battled each other in 165 pound match. Kevin Huber, a 1977 Uintah High School graduate, nipped Jr. Tripp, a 1978 Uintah Uin-tah graduate. Huber garnered two takedowns in the first round for a 4-2 lead. Tripp gained two neutrals. The contest ended in a 6 6 tie. on a reversal and neutral for a 7-4 lead. Tripp nabbed two points on a reversal. Three points were scored by Tripp in the third round, but Huber collected one counter for an 8-7 win. The next four matches ended on falls and Jerry Haslem, 190, gained his pin just in the nick of time as he pinned Scott Gardner at the first round buzzer. Gardner gained a takedown in the first round, but Haslem pocketed a reversal and a fall. Calvin Murray, 195, collected a pin win when he pinned Jody Young with 24 seconds left in the first round. Young moved in quick fashion around Murray, but Murray held his ground and won the battle for the takedown, pin and win. Uintah High School head wrestling coach Ed Johnson pinned Art Daley in a 200 pound match. Johnson scored two takedowns in the first round for a 4-1 lead. Daley scored a neutral. Johnson netted two neutrals for a 6-3 lead in the second round, but Daley decked Johnson for a takedown. Johnson ended the encounter with Daley when he pinned his opponent with 22 seconds to go in the third round. The battle of the heavyweights was won by Jeff Weeks due to a pin in the second round. Weeks netted two takedowns in the first round for a 4-1 lead and scored two reversals in the second round for an 8-3 lead. Shawn O'Brien scored a neutral in the first round and reversal in the second round. Weeks pinned O'Brien with 19 seconds left in the second round. Chuck Henry, a former Uintah High School wrestling coach, defeated Seymore Bedonie, 8 to 2, in the final match of the Alumni Meet. Henry leaped out to a 4-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and two-point near fall and added a reversal in the second round for a 6-0 lead.
