The event, which will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4595 Silver Springs Dr., on Saturday, May 2, will start at 6 p.m., and is a free community supper, but anyone who attends and wants to donate to Peace House may do so, Van der Bosch said. "Essentially, this is a barbecue dinner and there really isn't anything fancy about it," Van der Bosch said during an interview with The Park Record. "There is no obligation for people who want to come to the Wine & Swine to bring donations, but anything, I'm sure will be appropriate." The dinner will consist of barbecue pork and an array of side dishes. "What we'll hopefully end up with is a whole lot of barbecue pork for sandwiches or however people want to put it on their plates," Van der Bosch said. "The sides will be the traditional coleslaw, beans, cornbread, salads and desserts. "We'll start serving at 6 o'clock and the food will be out until it's gone, or when people stop coming," he said. "Anything left over will be given to Peace House." Wine & Swine will also offer wine and beer for adults and nonalcoholic beverages for youths and others who don't want to drink "We'll also have a sundae bar so people can make their own desserts," Van der Bosch said. In addition, there will be games for kids and live music. "This year's band is called the Dusty Boxcars," Van der Bosch said. "They play up in Park City quite a bit." Dusty Boxcars is comprised of Kerry Strazdins on lead vocals and percussion, and John Thomas Draper on guitars, harmonicas and vocals. While donations aren't required, they will be appreciated and collected at the door. Donations can be anything from money to basic supplies, according to Van der Bosch. "I would imagine Peace House would prefer money," he said, "That way they can purchase what they need, but I'm sure they would be happy with anything on the wish list." The wish list, which can be viewed in the accompanying box, is also found on Peace House's website, www.peacehouse.org. "When I look at the list, I see stuff like children's cold medicine, underwear and gift cards to Walmart," Van de Bosch said. "That's so different than when my daughter gets sick. All I have to do it jump in the car and go to the store and buy medicine, but the people who are staying at Peace House don't have that luxury. So if Peace House is asking for medicine, it shows that the people there don't have the resources to even buy medicine for their sick children. And that's a powerful motivator for me, because there is a true need there." This is something that the Park City community can fill easily, he said. "All it takes is a phone call or an email to people asking them to come together to put on a fun event that will bring some meaningful help to these mothers and children who are at Peace House today," Van der Bosch said. Years ago, Wine & Swine used to be held during the holiday season. "We would shoehorn it between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it was such a busy time in everyone's calendar, so we moved it to the weekend before Mother's Day," Van de Bosch Please see Dinner, C-7 The L.A.
