A Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Stein Eriksen, Olympic gold medalist and Deer Valley Ski School director. Stein received the award for his outstanding contributions to the sport of skiing in Utah and across the Intermountain West. Eriksen is a skiing legend around Park City, and one of the city's first Olympians, even though he never competed for the United States. After his racing days, Eriksen recalls signing a one-page contract with Edgar Stern, the owner of what was then known as the Park City Ski Area. Eriksen had already made several stops teaching skiing at other American resorts, but followed Stern as he opened Deer Valley Resort, touted as a ski mountain that would provide top-shelf service to the skiers. His ties with Deer Valley go back to its opening day in 1981, and his legacy is mirrored in the Stein Eriksen Lodge, a property that is worldrenowned for its excellence. The event's Partner of the Year award recognizes the extraordinary efforts, resources and other support from key partners who have been instrumental in helping to build Utah's sports industry. The 2015 recipient of this award was Deer Valley Resort. "Deer Valley has provided first-class hospitality and show- cased the state of Utah for over 34 years," said Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission. "It has been a terrific partner in helping to sustain Utah's Olympic legacy. Since their hosting of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, they have hosted two world championships and 13 World Cups, inviting the world's best freestyle athletes back again and again, showcasing this world-class venue to the world." This year's event featured special guest Jay Leno, who shared some Utah motorsports history with the audience and provided them with his unique brand of comedy that made him one of the world's most successful entertainers.
