The event, which will be held Sunday, May 3, is a fundraiser for Giving a Bleep. SCOTT IWASAKI The Park Record Giving a Bleep is a nonprofit organization founded by Annette Velarde in 2012. Its main mission is to present its annual "Giving a Bleep: The Show" every year and donate the proceeds to other nonprofits in the county. In order to do that, Giving a Bleep, the organization, needs to raise money for its own operation costs. That's how Velarde came up with Chickfest, an afternoon that celebrates personal expression and inner peace through samples of providers and vendors who are experts in spiritual and physical wellness. This year's Chickfest will be held on Sunday, May 3, at Prospector Convention Center, 2175 Sidewinder Dr., from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. "We will have 45 vendors from every modality," Velarde told The Park Record. "There are providers of things that I've never heard of to common offerings such as massages, Providers usually don't have the opportunity to get in front of a group of potential customers who have already expressed an interest in their services…" Annette Velarde Giving a Bleep executive director Reiki and things like that." There will also be separate presentations and speakers throughout the event, including Corey Sondrup, who is a wholistic chiropractor, and Park City-based author Stacy Dymalski, "We will also have product vendors who will bring their crystals, essential oils and jewelry and musical instruments," Velarde said. "I mean, we cover everything from access bars, akashic records and tarot cards and palm readers, to the science-supported providers such as juicers and chi- ropractors and book publishing." One of the things Velarde has learned over the years is that there are hundreds of roads to a single destination. "The point that everyone is looking for is full personal expression and inner peace," she said. "That's why I want to offer as many different things as possible." There are two different tickets for the event, according to Velarde. One is Woo Woo Wonderful and is $25, the other is Chickie Cheap and costs $10. "The Woo Woo Wonderful ticket holders can come in from 11 a.m. until noon and make four specific appointments for the afternoon with vendors or providers they want to see," she said. "Chickie Cheap ticket holders will be admitted at noon and snap up any slots that are open, but won't be guaranteed four appointments. Both tickets allow people to take a tour of what the vendors and providers have to offer." Chickfest is a great way to give attendees their own private preview of the providers and vendors, Velarde explained. "Those who are part of what we call the Woo Woo Buffet are all practicing professionals and they usually charge $100 a session," she said. "I wanted to bring them all together in one place so people won't have to go out and find them and carve out a couple of hours for a session." This way, a person can pay $25 and see what these practitioners have to offer. "They can schedule a mini session with them to see if it is something they really want," Velarde said. "Then they can take the rest of the week to think about what they just experienced and decide if they want to continue. If they do, they can contact the providers personally. If not, they don't have to do anything." Chickfest is also beneficial to the providers. "Providers usually don't have the opportunity to get in front of a group of potential customers who have already expressed an interest in their services," Velarde said. "And while many of the providers have mastered their spiritual and well-being services, Chickfest will help them master their business side by leading potential clients to them.
